WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE WORD OF FAITH MOVEMENT?
http://www.squidoo.com/wordoffaith
by Hank Hanegraaff
What's wrong with the "Faith" movement? Its leaders include many of the most popular television evangelists. Its adherents compose a large percentage of charismatic evangelical Christians. Its emphases on faith, the authority of the believer, and the absolute veracity of Scripture could appear to be just what today's church needs. And yet, I am convinced that this movement poses one of the greatest contemporary threats to orthodox Christianity from within. Through it, cultic theology is being increasingly accepted as true Christianity.
This article will highlight several serious problems with the Faith movement by providing an overview of its major sources and leaders. Part Two will focus on the movement's doctrinal deviations as represented by one of its leading proponents.1
It is important to note at the outset that the bulk of Faith theology can be traced directly to the cultic teachings of New Thought metaphysics. Thus, much of the theology of the Faith movement can also be found in such clearly pseudo-Christian cults as Religious Science, Christian Science, and the Unity School of Christianity.
Over a century before the Faith movement became a powerful force within the Christian church, Phineas Parkhurst Quimby (1802-1866), the father of New Thought, was popularizing the notion that sickness and suffering ultimately have their origin in incorrect thinking.2 Quimby's followers held that man could create his own reality through the power of positive affirmation (confession).3 Metaphysical practitioners have long taught adherents to visualize health and wealth, and then to affirm or confess them with their mouths so that the intangible images may be transformed into tangible realities.4
Although proponents of Faith theology have attempted to sanitize the metaphysical concept of the "power of mind" by substituting in its stead the "force of faith," for all practical purposes they have made a distinction without a difference. New Thought writer Warren Felt Evans, for example, wrote that "faith is the most intense form of mental action."5 In treating a patient, Evans commented that "the effect of the suggestion [or positive affirmation that the patient is well] is the result of the faith of the subject, for it is always proportioned to the degree in which the patient believes what you say" (emphasis in original).6 Likewise, H. Emilie Cady, a well-known writer for Charles and Myrtle Fillmore's Unity School of Christianity, explained that "our affirming, backed by faith, is the link that connects our conscious human need with His power and supply."7 Cady also claimed that "there is power in our word of faith to bring all good things right into our everyday life."8 Such statements strongly indicate that the distinction between the "mind" of metaphysics and the "faith" of Faith theology is nothing but a figment of the imagination.
An Ex-Word of Faith Preacher Explains the Word of Faith Movement
There is no denying that much of Faith theology is derived directly from metaphysics. Some of the substance, style, and scams endemic to the movement, however, can be traced primarily to the teachings and practices of certain post-World War II faith healers and revivalists operating within Pentecostal circles.9 With regard to substance, for example, both Kenneth Copeland and Kenneth Hagin point to T. L. Osborn and William Branham as true men of God who greatly influenced their lives and ministries. Of course, Osborn himself has consistently followed E. W. Kenyon's (see below) Scripture-twisting antics,10 and Branham has (among other things) denounced the doctrine of the Trinity as coming directly from the Devil.11
Unfortunately, Hagin and Copeland are not alone in affirming Branham; Faith proponent Benny Hinn gives him a hearty "thumbs up" as well.12 When it comes to style, however, Hinn gravitates more toward such faith healers as Aimee Semple McPherson and Kathryn Kuhlman. In addition, Hinn has given his endorsement to notorious revivalist A. A. Allen,13 who was truly a huckster if there ever was one - which brings us to our third "s," the scams.
Faith teachers such as Robert Tilton and his female counterpart, Marilyn Hickey, have copied many of the scams pioneered by Pentecostal preachers such as Oral Roberts and A. A. Allen. In fact, Tilton and Hickey have managed to exceed even their predecessors' outrageous ploys. This is hard to believe when one considers what sort of schemes they had to outdo.
In like fashion, A. A. Allen "scammed" his followers by asserting that he could command God to "turn dollar bills into twenties."
Roberts, the reader may recall, is the man who claimed that Jesus appeared and told him God had chosen him to find the cure for cancer. In a lengthy appeal, Roberts avowed that the Lord told him, "I would not have had you and your partners build the 20-story research tower unless I was going to give you a plan that will attack cancer." Roberts then said that Jesus instructed him to tell his partners that "this is not Oral Roberts asking for the money but their Lord."14 (The project was completed, but has since been "shut down and sold to a group of investors for commercial development."15 Not surprisingly, no cure for cancer was ever found.)
In like fashion, A. A. Allen "scammed" his followers by asserting that he could command God to "turn dollar bills into twenties."16 He was also known to have urged his followers to send for his "prayer cloths anointed with the Miracle Oil,"17 and he offered "Miracle tent shavings" as points of contact for personal miracles.18 Allen even "launched a brief 'raise the dead' program."19 Of course, it died.
Allen was eventually kicked out of the Assemblies of God denomination when he jumped bail after being arrested for drunk driving.20 In 1970 he died from what "news accounts report [as] sclerosis of the liver."21
As we proceed to examine the primary purveyors of Faith theology, we will see living proof of the maxim that "error begets error and heresy begets heresy." If, for example, one examines the cultic progression of E. W. Kenyon's theology, one will discover that his original deviations from orthodox Christianity were minor compared to those that characterized the later stages of his ministry. And with each of Kenyon's successive disciples, the errors become even more pronounced. Hagin, who popularized and plagiarized Kenyon prolifically, not only expanded Kenyon's perversions but added to them as well.22 The progression from bad to worse has continued with people like Kenneth Copeland and Charles Capps, and is now reaching heretical heights that are almost inconceivable through ministry leaders like Frederick Price, Benny Hinn, and Robert Tilton.
The Dangers of Todd Bentley Theology
By Hank Hanegraaff
I was just talking to a friend of mine, Gerry James, who once was a Mr. California who, as a long drive champion, he's quite a physical specimen. We've been friends for a long time. He told me that he had just returned from a Todd Bentley healing extravaganza in Lakeland.
He said that he had gone to lend moral support to his sister Angela, who had taken what little she had and arranged for a long trip from Michigan to Florida. This was at great financial cost to her. She did it because like thousands of others she was just plain desperate. The Christian grapevine, from Charisma to God TV has certainly provided the hype. "Thousands have experienced miraculous healings. Some are even being raised from the dead." And so with faith and expectation she loaded up her wheelchaired daughter and headed off to Lakeland. For two and a half hours she sang and swayed along with thousands of desperate people. And then came the testimonies.
A visiting speaker, Dr. Malone, elevated expectations with stories of dramatic healings. He said that that hundreds of Hindus who had poured into his meetings in India had been miraculously healed. In fact, he described the palpable sounds of hundreds of tumors exploding. He talked about the exuberant shouts of the lame as they walked away from their crutches and the cries of paraplegics who were leaving their wheelchairs behind. He said that in sharp contrast to the healings of the Hindus, none of the Muslims in the meeting experienced the miraculous. That is, he said, until a Muslim woman stepped forward and surrendered her child to the Christians on stage. While still in a quandary over why God had healed the Hindus and not the Muslims, the Spirit of the Almighty God allegedly spoke to Malone and demanded that the child be thrown to the ground. Incredibly, says Malone, the child was healed in mid-air and subsequently the Muslims in the meeting experienced miraculous healings - every one of them.
Of course these kinds of stories elevated expectations to fever pitch, and so with tears streaming down her face Angela wheeled the most precious of her possessions towards the stage. This was her moment. This was the culmination of all her hopes and dreams. Within moments the paralysis of her daughter would be but a distant memory.
Suddenly, however, an agony beyond the burden that she carried in her heart for all these years cascaded down upon her and in that moment her dreams were dashed. You see, an usher blocked her entrance to the stage, saying that only the healed had entry to the healer. Angela ended up leaving dejected and discouraged.
Ironically, Gerry's son Taylor, who suffers from epilepsy, left feeling that he had experienced the miraculous. Had Taylor been interviewed that very moment he would have testified to complete and total healing. Gerry, however, left in a quandary. He said that the healer was a fraud. He risked damaging the faith of his son. If he threw away his meds his son would experience a grand mal seizure.
I was thinking about that experience when I got a letter from a lady who said:
"I catch your show every now and then on the air. I know you love God and are committed to serving Him, but I've noticed that you come against other Christian teachers on your show. Mr. Hanegraaff, a house divided against itself cannot stand. God sent many different types of preachers into the world who have different styles and different audiences. Not everyone is going to use your approach. You give sound bites of other preachers' sermons, and they may be off a little bit and erroneous. As smart as you are, I find it frustrating that you don't see that you're causing more harm than good. As long as the other preachers pass the "Jesus is Lord" test I wish you would trust the Holy Spirit to take care of the rest. He doesn't need any help, sir! Don't you get it? When we all get to heaven we'll see who really had the anointing and who really was led by the Spirit to do what. Until then, love covers a multitude of sins."
This is by a lady named Heather. So on the one hand I have Gerry talking about the experience he had at one of the Todd Bentley events, the aftermath of discouragement and dejection, not knowing if God loves you or if you had enough faith. On the other hand, I have a lady named Heather who tells me I should butt out. I'm bringing more harm than good by bringing these things up on the air.
This raises the question: Should Christians judge the teachings of their leaders?
Not only is judging permissible - it is a responsibility. Nobody's teachings are above sound judgment. Especially those who have influence and power. Biblically, authority and accountability go hand in hand. The greater the responsibility, the greater the accountability. The precedent for making right judgments comes from the Bible. In the Old Testament the Israelites were commanded to practice sound judgment. They were told to thoroughly test the teachings of their leaders. In the New Testament the Apostle Paul commands the Thessalonians to test all things and to hold fast to that which is good. Paul lauds the Bereans for doing just that, for testing his teachings.
While our Lord cautioned followers not to judge self-righteously, He also counseled them to make judgments based on right standards, and in the contest of oft-quoted commands by Jesus such as "Judge not or you too will be judged," Jesus also exhorted us to judge false prophets whose teachings and whose behavior lead people to abject misery. Thus, while we're commanded not to judge hypocritically, we are, nevertheless, called to judge.
Common sense should be sufficient to alert us to the importance of making public as well as private judgments regarding false doctrine. Remember the infamous Tylenol scare in 1982? Public warnings were issued by the media as well as by the medical community regarding the physical danger of ingesting Tylenol capsules that had been laced with cyanide. I think this is an apt illustration because spiritual cyanide is being dispensed within the Christian community, and therefore we are duty-bound to warn the public. We have a biblical precedent for this. Paul publicly rebuked Hymenaeus and Philetus for teaching which was false and was spreading like gangrene. Today we are in much the same condition.
We have the gangrene of Todd Bentley spreading like a plague, and we have Charisma Magazine, God TV and God knows what other media outlets hyping these guys to the extreme. And essentially, just like Heather, they're saying "Look, let's just see if this turns out to be a wonderful move of God and let's not judge!" Well, my friends, if no one sounds the alarm there are going to continue to be thousands and thousands - dare I say millions - of disillusioned people that don't know what to believe or who to trust. People like my friend Gerry. People like his sister Angela. Their kids. Sometime in the future I'm going to tell you the story of William Dembski. He's one of the brightest guys on the planet. He just experienced the same thing. You want to cry when you think about it.
These people end up thinking God doesn't care for them, they don't know what to believe or who to trust. Many of them are shipwrecked in their faith. This is a gangrene, a cancer, a distortion of truth in our midst, and it needs to be called out for what it is because people are losing their ability to discern. A lot of you reading this blog right now are rational and coherent, but after three hours of singing one song over and over again, or a few lyrics, you are in an altered state of consciousness, you're willing to believe virtually anything that enters your mind, no matter how mundane or outlandish.
Well, if nobody else is willing to say it - and I don't care how many Heathers stop supporting this ministry - I'm going to continue saying what I'm saying. Todd Bentley is a spiritual fraud. He's communicating spiritual cyanide by the megadose. His messages are merely stories. They're the figment of his own fertile imagination. When he talks about tens of resurrections from the dead he doesn't give you any details. Why no details? Why wouldn't he give us any kind of indication who these people are? For example, according to Bentley one man, unembalmed, was dead for 48 hours in a coffin. When the family gathered around it in a funeral home the man knocked from inside the coffin and asked to be let out. Conspicuous by their absence, however, are names, death certificates, addresses, phone numbers and eyewitness testimony. Imagine if this is how we testified to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We would be, as Peter put it, communicating cleverly invented stories. But Peter said "No, we didn't. We told you the truth. We looked at Him we saw Him, we touched Him, we handled Him. We know He's the Word of Life." They gave evidence. Bentley does not.

Nearly two decades ago Hank Hanegraaff's award-winning Christianity in Crisis alerted the world to the dangers of a cultic movement within Christianity that threatened to undermine the very foundation of biblical faith. But in the 21st century, there are new dangers-new teachers who threaten to do more damage than the last.
These are not obscure teachers that Hanegraaff unmasks. We know their names. We have seen their faces, sat in their churches, and heard them shamelessly preach and promote the false pretexts of a give-to-get gospel. They are virtual rock stars who command the attention of presidential candidates and media moguls. Through make-believe miracles, urban legends, counterfeit Christs, and twisted theological reasoning, they peddle an occult brand of metaphysics that continues to shipwreck the faith of millions around the globe:
"God cannot do anything in this earthly realm unless we give Him permission."
"Keep saying it-'I have equality with God'-talk yourself into it."
"Being poor is a sin."
"The Jews were not rejecting Jesus as Messiah; it was Jesus who was refusing to be the Messiah to the Jews!"
"You create your own world the same way God creates His. He speaks, and things happen; you speak, and they happen."
Christianity in Crisis: 21st Century exposes darkness to light, pointing us back to a Christianity centered in Christ.
The Cast of Characters
Twisted texts, make-believe miracles, and a counterfeit Christ are all common denominators of the Faith movement's leading teachers. And, as all who look into the matter will clearly see, it all began with the metaphysical teachings of Essek William Kenyon.
Essek William Kenyon
Essek William Kenyon, whose life and ministry were enormously impacted by such cults as Science of Mind, the Unity School of Christianity, Christian Science, and New Thought metaphysics,23 is the true father of the modern-day Faith movement. Many of the phrases popularized by present-day prosperity preachers, such as "What I confess, I possess," were originally coined by Kenyon. Kenneth Hagin, to whom we next turn our attention, plagiarized much of Kenyon's work, including the statement, "Every man who has been 'born again' is an Incarnation, and Christianity is a miracle. The believer is as much an Incarnation as was Jesus of Nazareth."24
Kenneth E. Hagin
As I thoroughly demonstrate in my book Christianity in Crisis (Harvest House, 1993), Kenneth Hagin takes Kenyon's theology from bad to worse. Not only does he boast of alleged visits to heaven and hell, he recounts numerous out-of-body experiences (OBEs) on the earth as well.
On one occasion, Hagin claims he was in the middle of a sermon when, suddenly, he was transported back in time. He ended up in the back seat of a car and watched as a young woman from his church committed adultery with the driver. The entire experience lasted about fifteen minutes, after which Hagin abruptly found himself back in church, summoning his parishioners to prayer.25
Despite his propensity for telling tall tales and describing false visions, virtually every major Faith teacher has been impacted by Hagin - including such "luminaries" as Frederick K. C. Price and Kenneth Copeland.

Kenneth Copeland
Kenneth Copeland got his start in ministry as a direct result of memorizing Hagin's messages. It wasn't long before he had learned enough from Hagin to establish his own following. To say his teachings are heretical would be an understatement - blasphemous is more like it. Copeland brashly pronounces God to be the greatest failure of all time, boldly proclaims that "Satan conquered Jesus on the Cross" (emphasis in original),26 and describes Christ in hell as an "emaciated, poured out, little, wormy spirit."27
Yet, despite such statements, Benny Hinn ominously warned that "those who attack Kenneth Copeland are attacking the very presence of God!"28
CBS Report on Televangelists: Kenneth Copeland
Benny Hinn
Benny Hinn is one of the fastest rising stars on the Faith circuit. According to an October 5, 1992 article in Christianity Today, sales of his books in the last year-and-a-half have exceeded those of James Dobson and Charles Swindoll combined.29 While claiming to be "under the anointing," Hinn has uttered some of the most "off-the-wall" statements imaginable - including the claim that the Holy Spirit revealed to him that women were originally designed to give birth out of their sides.30
Hinn also admits to frequenting the graves of both Kathryn Kuhlman and Aimee Semple McPherson to get the "anointing" from their bones.31 Despite his outrageous antics, Hinn has somehow managed to gain wide acceptance and visibility within the evangelical Christian church. His platform on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), as well as his promotion by a mainstream Christian publisher (Thomas Nelson), have catapulted him into prime-time visibility.
Whether Hinn is referring to his family history or his rendezvous with the Holy Spirit, fantasy is often passed on as fact. A case in point are the thousands of "documented" healings claimed by Hinn. Recently, he sent me three examples - presumably, the cream of the crop - as proof of his miracle-working power. One of the cases involved a man who was supposedly healed of colon cancer. A medically naive person reading the pathology report may well see the notation "no evidence of malignancy" and be duped into thinking that a bona fide healing had indeed taken place. CRI's medical consultant, Dr. Preston Simpson, however, was not fooled by the report. His investigation revealed that the colon tumor in question was surgically removed rather than miraculously healed. The other two cases had comparably serious problems.32

Frederick K. C. Price
Fred Price is the most notable of a growing number of black prosperity preachers. His church in Los Angeles now claims some 16,000 members. He is seen nationally on television and has referred to himself as the "chief exponent of Name It and Claim It."33 Price has added his own unique twists to Faith theology by asserting that Jesus took on the nature of Satan prior to the crucifixion34 and by claiming that the Lord's Prayer is not for Christians today.35 Despite telling his followers that he doesn't allow sickness in his home, Price's wife has been treated for cancer in her pelvic area.36 Referring to his wealth, Price says the reason he drives a Rolls Royce is that he is following in Jesus' steps.37
Dr. Fred Price and "Positive Confession"
John Avanzini
John Avanzini is billed by his Faith peers as a recognized authority on biblical economics. The truth, however, is that Avanzini is an authority on perverting Scripture as a means to picking the pockets of the poor. He has honed his craft into such an art form that when Faith teachers need money, they inevitably call on "Brother John." Armed with a bag full of Bible-twisting tricks, he tells the unsuspecting that "a greater than a lottery has come. His name is Jesus!"38
According to Avanzini, if Jesus was rich, we should be rich as well. Thus, he recasts Christ into a mirror image of himself - complete with designer clothes, a big house, and a wealthy, well-financed advance team.39 Thinking otherwise, Avanzini claims, will prevent Christians from reaping the prosperity God has laid out for them.40
Avanzini runs the gamut from teaching people how to get their hands on the "wealth of the wicked" to what might best be described as his "hundredfold hoax."41 When it comes to fleecing God's people, few can match the effectiveness of John Avanzini. There is an exception, however; his name is Robert Tilton.
John Avanzini Unholy Tongues
Robert Tilton
Robert Tilton hit the big time as a fisher of funds by developing a religious infomercial called Success-N-Life. It all began when he traveled to Hawaii to hear from the Lord. Says Tilton, "If I'm going to go to the cross, I'm going to go in a pretty place. Not some dusty place like Jerusalem. That's gravel is all that place is."42 While languishing in his exotic wilderness, Tilton "realized his mission was to persuade the poor to give what they could to him - as God's surrogate - so they too could be blessed."43
Then, one day, Tilton tuned in to television and turned on to Dave Del Dotto's real estate infomercials. The rest is history. Tilton used what he saw as a prototype44 for building an empire that takes in as much as $65 million per year.45
It now appears that Tilton's ill-gotten gains may dwindle rapidly amid reports of scandal and a variety of lawsuits.46 Responding to charges from ABC's Prime Time Live that the prayer request letters he promises to pray over end up in dumpsters, Tilton claims, "I laid on top of those prayer requests so much that the chemicals actually got into my bloodstream, and . . . I had two small strokes in my brain."47
Marilyn Hickey
Marilyn Hickey, much like Tilton, employs a broad range of tactics to manipulate followers into sending her money. Among her many ploys are anointed prayer cloths, ceremonial breastplates, and ropes that can be used as points of contact. In one of her appeal letters, Hickey promises she will slip into a ceremonial breastplate, "press your prayer request to my heart," and "place your requests on my shoulders" - all for a suggested donation.48
For the most part, Hickey's tricks and teachings are recycled from other prosperity peddlers like Tilton, Hagin, and Copeland. Her message is peppered with such Faith jargon as "the God-kind of faith," "confession brings possession," and "receiving follows giving."
Marilyn Tells the Egypt Loaves and Fishes Miracle
Paul Yonggi Cho (David Cho)
Paul Yonggi Cho - pastor of the world's largest church, located in Seoul, South Korea - claims to have received his call to preach from Jesus Christ Himself, who supposedly appeared to him dressed like a fireman.49 Cho has packaged his faith formulas under the label of "fourth dimensional power."50 He is well aware of his link to occultism, arguing that if Buddhists and Yoga practitioners can accomplish their objectives through fourth dimensional powers, then Christians should be able to accomplish much more by using the same means.51 In case one is tempted to confuse the size of Cho's following with the truth of his teachings, let me point out that the Buddhist version of "name it and claim it" (Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism) has an even larger following than does Cho.52
Cho recently made the news by changing his name from Paul to David. As Cho tells the story, God showed him that Paul Cho had to die and David Cho was to be resurrected in his place. According to Cho, God Himself came up with his new name.53

Charles Capps
Charles Capps was ordained as a minister in the International Convention of Faith Churches and Ministers by Kenneth Copeland and derived his teachings directly from Kenneth Hagin. This unfortunate combination has led Capps to make some of the most blasphemous statements in Faith lore. Capps has gone so far as to teach that Jesus was the product of God's positive confession: "This is the key to understanding the virgin birth. God's Word is full of faith and spirit power. God spoke it. God transmitted that image to Mary. She received the image inside of her....The embryo that was in Mary's womb was nothing more than the Word of God....She conceived the Word of God."54
Capps not only preaches the blasphemous, he also preaches the ridiculous. For example, he claims that if someone says, "I'm just dying to do that" or "That just tickled me to death," their statements may literally come true (i.e., they may die). According to Capps, this is precisely why the human race now lives only about seventy years instead of 900 years, as was the case with Adam.55
Jerry Savelle
Jerry Savelle has made his fortune by mimicking virtually all of the Faith teachers mentioned above. His greatest claim to fame, however, may well be his ability to mimic Kenneth Copeland. In fact, Savelle appears to be an exact duplicate of Copeland. Savelle demonstrates a total lack of biblical acumen, as he blindly regurgitates virtually every heresy in the Faith movement.
With regard to health, Savelle boasts that sickness and disease cannot enter his world.56 As for wealth, he says that words can speak your world into existence.57 Savelle now peddles his books and tapes to thirty-six countries at the astonishing rate of some 300,000 copies per year.

Morris Cerullo
Morris Cerullo claims that he gave up a driving ambition to be the governor of New Jersey in order to become a minister of the gospel.58 He purports to have first met God at the tender age of eight. Since then his life has been one mind-blowing experience after another: he says he was taught by leading rabbis;59 led out of a Jewish orphanage by two angelic beings;60 transported to heaven for a face-to-face meeting with God;61 and told he would be capable of revealing the future.62
On one occasion, Cerullo informed his audience, "You're not looking at Morris Cerullo - you're looking at God. You're looking at Jesus."63 Not only is Cerullo a master of make-believe, he is also a master of manipulation. Claiming that God was directly speaking through him, Cerullo uttered, "Would you surrender your pocketbooks unto Me, saith God, and let me be the Lord of your pocketbooks....Yea, so be thou obedient unto my voice."64

Paul Crouch
Paul Crouch and his wife, Jan, are the founders of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, which today has an estimated net worth of half a billion dollars. As Crouch himself puts it, "God has, indeed, given us the MOST POWERFUL VOICE in the history of the WORLD."65 Unfortunately, this voice is being used to promote teachings straight from the kingdom of the cults. Crouch's influence has become so vast that he can now raise as much as $50 million during a single "Praise-a-Thon." What many of the well-intentioned Christians who support TBN do not know, however, is that part of this money goes to promoting cultic groups and individuals who not only deny the Trinity but claim that this essential of Christianity is a pagan doctrine.66 It is indeed ironic that a broadcasting network called "Trinity" would promote anti-Trinitarian doctrine.
To those who would speak out against the false teachings proliferated on his network, Crouch has this to say: "I think they're damned and on their way to hell; and I don't think there's any redemption for them."67 Shortly after I met with Crouch to prove that the Faith movement compromises essential Christian doctrine, Crouch looked into the lens of the television camera and angrily declared, "If you want to criticize Ken Copeland for his preaching on faith, or Dad Hagin, get out of my life! I don't even want to talk to you or hear you. I don't want to see your ugly face. Get out of my face, in Jesus' name."68
Sadly, Crouch refers to the Faith message as a "revival of truth . . . restored by a few precious men."69

Genetic Defect?
The Faith movement was spawned by the unholy marriage of 19th-century New Thought metaphysics with the flamboyance and abuses of post-World War II revivalism. It should therefore come as no surprise that its doctrine and practices are palpably unbiblical. Yet, some charge that critics of the movement are guilty of committing a logical error known as the genetic fallacy - "that is, rejecting an assumption because of where it comes from rather than disproving the argument."70
While the charge appears formidable, it is in fact defective. For it assumes that the criticisms against the Faith movement are made primarily if not solely on the basis of its historical roots. In truth, the bulk of critical evaluations are leveled directly against the unbiblical teachings of the movement's leading proponents today.71 Historical discussions have, for the most part, served to place the phenomenon in its proper context.72
Now that we've dug up the roots and sampled the topsoil of the Faith movement, we are ready to take a penetrating look at its ripened fruit. Part Two of this article will do just that, by systematizing and critiquing the theology of the movement's premier preacher of another gospel.
NEW AGE FAITH IS BEING TAUGHT AS BIBLE FAITH

The New Age is a movement whose objective is to totally secularize the world. The New Age is the philosophy of the United Nation, Marxism; most humanitarian organizations; most politicians; and religious leaders who are involved in the interfaith movement. It is the liberation philosophy of Marxism. The New Age does not believe Jesus Christ is any more divine than any other man; it is humanistic; believes man is a god; is promoting globalization; and is basically Science of Mind, Christian Science. In reality it is the religion of Hinduism wearing a modern mask. Its main focus is prosperity, success and self-realization. It teaches that we should use our minds to heal ourselves, rather than looking to Jesus as our healer. New Agers are involved in the occult and witchcraft. They consult with psychics or seers and are seeking spiritual experiences. The New Age evaluates everything by experiences and feelings.
Most “success” books are written by New Age authors. Books on the New Age, success, psychology, witchcraft; the occult and religion are proliferating. If one will notice in secular book stores, books on success; the New Age; the occult, witchcraft, psychology and religion are shelved close together. Nearly all religious books that are sold in secular book stores are compatible with the New Age philosophy. The two antagonists, Christianity and secularism, are stealthily merging. Many professing Christians are buying both religious and New Age books. They feel comfortable going both ways just like bisexuals. Many preachers get their sermons from New Age success and psychology books. Without a doubt, secular book stores have an ideological and philosophical agenda. Most Christian stores have no doctrinal standard, but sell whatever the market demands.
In this article I am going to compare specific teachings of some of the most prominent preachers with teachings from different major New Age books. You will be shocked to recognize that much of the language many preachers use is verbatim that of the New Age. The seducing and confusing thing about the New Age is that its teachers often use scriptures and biblical language to camouflage their anti-biblical teachings.
One of the main differences of New Age Faith and Bible Faith is that the New Age may quote scriptures but with their clever spin, delete God and Jesus out of its philosophy. They intentionally blur the lines by twisting and distorting the scriptures to deceive God’s people. The New Age is all about formulas and spiritual laws. In reality they replace God with YOU and the Universe. For a teaching to be New Age, it doesn’t have to be comprehensive, it can do this piece meal; a little at a time. This way it is difficult to detect. The New Age has crept slowly inside Christianity. Many teachers today replace God with ‘spiritual laws’. Because of clever wording, often the New Age’s teachings can be very difficult to detect, although it is totally adversarial to the Gospel.
The New Age philosophy has now taken over most of Christianity. Much of Christianity is now literally teaching “doctrines of devils” in the name of Jesus. The explanation of how the New Age could possibly infiltrate and take over much of Christianity is that it has been patiently done a little at a time from within. Few Christians really understand the New Age. Because of its subtleness, it has been deeply absorbed into Christianity without a shot being fired. In this article I will show how some of Christianity’s major preachers have skillfully replaced Bible Faith with New Age Faith.
HERE IS A COMPARISON TWO MAJOR MINISTERS WHO HAVE IMPACTED CHRISTIANITY WORLDWIDE with the best selling New Age Book ‘The Secret’. (All page numbers shown are from the book ‘The Secret’). The teachings of The New Age and major ministers will be compared to the Bible, KJV.
1. THE NEW AGE book “The Secret” - p. 164 “You are God manifested in human form,”
“YOU are God in a physical body. You are Spirit in the flesh. You are Eternal Life expressing itself as You. You are all intelligence. You are perfection. You are magnificence. You are the creator,”
COMPARE - KENNETH HAGIN -“You are as much the incarnation of God as Jesus Christ was...” (Kenneth Hagin, "Word Of Faith" Dec. 1980, p. 14)
The meaning of the word ‘INCARNATION’. A theological term for the coming of God's Son into the world as a human being. The term ‘incarnation’ itself is not used in the Bible, but it is based on clear references in the New Testament to Jesus as a person "in the flesh" (Rom 8:3; Eph 2:15; Col 1:22).
But the joining together of deity and humanity that marks His incarnation did not come to an end with His ascension. Jesus took His resurrected body with Him back to heaven (Luke 24:51; Acts 1:9). In heaven now He is our divine Lord, our human leader, and the great High Priest who serves as a mediator between God and man (Heb 3:1).

2. THE NEW AGE - Walsch, “You are the Word made flesh” Walsch, “Friendship With God”, p. 395.
*COMPARE - KENNETH COPELAND “Adam in the Garden of Eden was God ‘manifested’ in the flesh." (Kenneth Copeland, Following the Faith of Abraham I (Fort Worth, TX: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1989), tape #01-3001, side 1). Copeland is exactly copying the New Age teachings.
COMPARE WITH THE BIBLE: 1 Tim 3:16 “God was ‘manifest’ in the flesh,” KJV This scripture was referring to Jesus not any other man.
John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)” KJV This is talking about Jesus Christ. This is putting YOU in CHRIST’S PLACE.
THE NEW AGE – You have the Christ ‘Karma’ in you. You are Christ!
3. THE NEW AGE, HINDUISM – MAN IS A GOD
COMPARE COPELAND -“YOU DON'T HAVE A GOD IN YOU, YOU ARE ONE."
(Kenneth Copeland, "The Force of Love" tape # 02-0028)
Col 1:27 “Christ in you , the hope of glory:” KJV
PAUL CROUCH Head of Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). “We are little gods.” (Praise the Lord (TBN), recorded 7/7/86)
BENNY HINN - "YOU ARE A LITTLE GOD ON EARTH RUNNING AROUND". (Benny Hinn, "Praise-a-thon" broadcast on TBN, November, 1990)
THE BIBLE: Isa 43:10 “before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.” KJV
The Serpent said to Eve, Gen 3:5 “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your -eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods” KJV Telling man that he would be a god was Satan’s first temptation to man.
4. *THE NEW AGE, Walsch, “Man is equal with God” Walsch said God told him, “There is only one of us. You and I are One.” Walsch, “Friendship With God”, p. 23, 26
HAGIN says “Man was created on terms of EQUALITY with God, no inferiority.” Hagin, “Zoe” p. 36. (See Article II “Man is a god”)
COPELAND says, “God is going to have a family of EQUALS.” Copeland, “Fullness: God’s Plan for His Family,” BVOV Magazine, July and August 2004, pg. 32.
COPELAND-“Pray to yourself, because I'm in your self and you're in My self. We are one Spirit, saith the Lord." (Kenneth Copeland, "Believer's Voice of Victory", Feb. 1987, p.9)
5. THE NEW AGE -“Man is not subject to God” Walsch, “Conversations With God”: Book 1, p. 41.
Copeland- Referring to Adam, Copeland said, “He was not SUBORDINATE TO GOD”” Copeland, (Fort Worth, TX: Kenneth Copeland Ministries, 1989), tape#01-3001, side 1). (See Article II, “Man is a god”).
6. *THE NEW AGE, Walsch talks about man becoming a “NEW SPECIES” Barbara Marx Hubbard “The Revelation” p. 65
Copeland talks about man becoming a “NEW SPECIES” (See Article II “Man is a god”)
7. *THE NEW AGE “The crucifixion didn’t establish the Atonement” p. 36 Helen Schuman “A Course in Miracles”
HAGIN- says, “Christ’s physical death on the cross was not enough to save us.” Kenneth Hagin, “How Jesus Obtained His Name”, Tape 44H01.
COPELAND- “It wasn’t a physical death on the cross that paid the price for sin…anybody can do that.” (Kenneth Copeland, “What Satan Saw on the “Day of Pentecost”. Audio tape #BCC-19), side 1. (In the Faith Movement, where are the songs about The Cross?”).
THE BIBLE 1 Cor 15:3 “Christ died for our sins” KJV
Eph 2:16 “And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross , having slain the enmity thereby:” KJV
A MAJOR MINISTER referring to Jesus said, “The blood itself did not atone.” (See Article III, “Perverting the Atonement” www.combineharvesting.com)
THE BIBLE: Lev 17:11 “for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” KJV See Aritcle III, PERVERTING THE ATONEMENT.
Rom 5:11 “And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement .” KJV
Heb 9:22 “without shedding of blood is no remission.” KJV
Eph 1:7 “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” KJV
1 Peter 1:18-19 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” KJV
8. THE NEW AGE writer Neale Donald Walsch in his book “Conversations With God” There are no ten commandments Chpt. 3, p. 375
E.W. Kenyon, “What Happened from the Cross to the Throne”, p. 50’
THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ARE DONE AWAY.
Smith Wigglesworth, “Healing, p. 81, the ten commandments are done away;
Hagin “Exceeding Growing Faith”, p. 61. “THE TEN COMMANDMENTS ARE DONE AWAY.
(See Article VII, www.combineharvesting.com God’s Plan of Salvation has been Corrupted)
COMPARE HAGIN-“So Jesus’ blood is precious because of its pacifying power; it pacifies not only the broken law, but also a GUILTY CONSCIOUS.” “The Precious Blood”, Hagin, p. 18.
1 Tim 4:2 “Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;” KJV
9. THE NEW AGE Walsch, “Sin doesn’t exist” Neale Donald Walsch “Conversations With God” p. 87.
Copeland says The blood of Jesus did not just cover sin, it remitted sin---did away with sin completely. Copeland “The Force of Righteousness”, p. 7. See Article VII)
THE BIBLE: Rom 3:23 “all have sinned , and come short of the glory of God;” KJV
1 John 1:7 “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” KJV
COMPARE HAGIN-“So Jesus’ blood is precious because of its pacifying power; it pacifies not only the broken law, but also a GUILTY CONSCIOUS.” “The Precious Blood”, Hagin, p. 18.
1 Tim 4:2 “Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;” KJV
10. THE NEW AGE Walsch, “Conversations With God”, THERE IS NO HELL. p. Walsch, “Converstaions With God”, Book 2 p. 36.
HAGIN AND COPELAND AND THEIR ALLIES NEVER TEACH OR PREACH ABOUT HELL
11. THE NEW AGE Walsch, The New Gospel is based on “Revelation”, not the Bible. Revelation is the “New Word of God.” Neale Donald Walsch “Friendship With God” p. 295-296.
Hagin strongly infers that Rhema word or NEW revelation supercedes the Bible and that Rhema Word and Revelation are considered the Word of God. With Hagin, Rhema or revelation trumps the Bible.
12. THE NEW AGE Walsch, God is directly talking to him. “Conversations With God” book 3 p. 219.
Hagin, Copeland, Hinn, and their allies say God is directly talking to them.
13. The New Age uses Mark 11:24. The Secret p. 54, …but they pervert the scriptures to teach humanism, the doctrines of devils. How? They do this by leaving God out of these scriptures and just focusing on faith. They pervert this scripture my just making faith a formula, a spiritual law.
below is a basic comparison of the TEACHINGS OF THE New Age from one of its best selling books “the secret”, with THE TEACHINGS OF KENNETH HAGIN AND The Bible:
Kenneth Hagin was a disciple of E.W. Kenyon and got much of what he taught through Kenyon’s books, even though Kenyon wasn’t Pentecostal.
KENNNETH HAGIN’S EXPOSITION OF MARK 11:22-24:
THE BIBLE: KJV Mark 11:22 says, “Have faith in God.”
Hagin says this could have been translated to “Have the Faith of God” or Have the God Kind of Faith”.
By doing this, he changes the scripture and removes God from the equation. Now he is teaching us instead of looking to God to answer our prayers, we need to seek to get the kind of faith God has, (copy God) then you can do what God does. That is exactly what Lucifer did. Lucifer tried to be like God, (copy God).
Now God is not the focus of one’s attention, but rather faith. Now they are teaching that faith gives you God’s ability to do what God does. This is absolutely exactly a carbon copy of what the New Age teaches. Their faith is nothing more than positive thinking; positive speaking and the exaltation of man. It is all about what man can do with his faith without God.
True Bible faith is…
Mk 11:24 “…whatsoever things we desire, after knowing it’s God’s will, and praying and believing, we know we will receive them from the Lord.”
John 15:7 “If ye abide in me , and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” KJV
FAITH IS VERY IMPORTANT! It is spoken of often throughout the Bible. Heb. 1:6, “without faith it is impossible to please God.” But it is Faith in God, Faith in Jesus Christ, Faith in God’s Word. Faith is not the answer, Jesus is the answer. Faith is very important because it is the connector of man to God. Faith is not the power source, Jesus is.
Matt 13:55 “And He did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” KJV Unbelief in Him.
Satan’s biggest temptation, is to quote partial-scriptures to Christians, or use scriptures out of context. This is not “rightly dividing” the Word of God. 2 Tim. 1:15. This was Satan’s tactic he used to tempt Jesus. This tactic didn’t work on Jesus, but it has worked on many of his followers.
Rom 1:25 “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever.” KJV
Acts 13:10 “And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?” KJV
The New Age book The Secret p. 13 “But this is the generation that will change history, because we are receiving the knowledge that can free us of this epidemic! It begins with you, and you can become a pioneer of this NEW THOUGHT MOVEMENT by simply thinking and SPEAKING INTO EXISTENCE WHATEVER YOU WANT.”
E.W. Kenyon attended Emerson college in Massachusetts. It was a school of oratory which was a hotbed of New Thought, Metaphysics, Christian Science; Science of mind. He did not believe in speaking in tongues. He was accepted as a teacher in Pentecost despite ignoring speaking in tongues, because of his teachings on Faith. Kenyon was the true father of the Faith Movement. Even the title “Faith Movement” shows that most of the attention of this movement is on “faith” rather than God. It was through Kenyon that the New Age philosophy of New Thought penetrated Pentecost. (p. 45 “A Different Gospel”)
14. THE NEW AGE teaches by simply thinking and SPEAKING INTO EXISTENCE WHATEVER YOU WANT.” They teach we can do this without God. This comes from the NEW THOUGHT philosophy.
In the New Age book The Secret p. 13, “But this is the generation that will change history, because we are receiving the knowledge that can free us of this epidemic! It begins with you, and you can become a pioneer of this NEW THOUGHT MOVEMENT
There is no doubt from the scriptures that proper thinking and speaking are important.
Prov 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue:” KJV
MOST MINISTERS – teach we can get whatever we want simply by speaking it into existence. Whether intentional or not, by using corrupt translations or by using Hagin’s teaching in reference to Mark 11:22-24, they delete God out of the scripture and are using the scripture just like the new age to make a faith formula, by saying use God’s faith or God kind of faith to speak into existence what you want. We know our words are important, but now it is often taught inside Christianity that it is ‘your words’ that heal you, or prosper, rather than the Lord healing or blessing you. That is a great perversion. It is New Age!
A RECENT CHRISTIAN song goes like this: “Say to the mountain move. Say to the mountain, get out of my way, because I believe; I believe, I believe, I believe” If one will notice, God is not mentioned in this song. It is just “believing” and the mountain will move. That song could be used in a New Age Festival.
15. THE NEW AGE The Secret - p. 54 quotes Mark 11:24 “What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
The Secret p. 117 “Make room to receive your desires, and as you do, you are sending out that powerful signal of expectation.”
THE BIBLE says we are to expect an answer when we pray.
Phil 1:19-20 “For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, According to my earnest expectation…” KJV
The difference is the New Agers are desiring, expecting, praying, believing and expecting to receive from the Universe and not from God. This is an intentionally reinventing Mark 11:24. God is left out.
p. 89 “The Universe says, ‘Your wish is my command,’ and disappears.”
p. 92 “Believe you deserve it and believe it’s possible for you.” (This is the Power of Positive Thinking’). “Then go into your day and release it to the Universe and trust that the Universe will figure out how to MANIFEST IT.”
Saying the Magic begins. Magic IS FROM WITCHCRAFT, IT IS NOT THE MIRACLE POWER OF GOD.
KENNETH HAGIN emphasizes “whatsoever thing you desire”, speak it and believe it and you will have it. Then you can say to the mountain be removed, Mk. 11:23. (Hagin’s book, p. 95 “Exceeding Growing Faith”). His emphasis, like the New Age is on “your desires” and “having faith”. God’s will is not factored in.
Charles Capps, a major teacher in the Faith Movement. It’s not legal for God to do anything on earth without coming through a man. “God would have to answer to The Supreme Court of the Universe.” Capps, “Authority in Three World’s”, p. 55-56. God answering to the Supreme Court of the Universe? WHO DOES GOD HAVE TO ANSWER TO? HE IS THE FINAL AUTHORITY HIMSELF! Where is that in the Bible? This is totally a New Age statement.
16. THE NEW AGE book The Secret p. 50 “Claim the things you want by feeling and believing they are yours.” “How do you get yourself to the point of believing? Be like a child, and make believe. Act as if you already have it.” “Have faith. Your belief that you have it, that undying faith, is your greatest power. When you believe you are receiving, get ready, and watch THE MAGIC begin.”
THE BIBLE does not talk about claiming something. That language has been injected into Christianity from the new age.
When the Bible is talking about a CHILD, it is not referring to MAKE BELIEVE.
Luke 18:17 “Verily I say unto you, “Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.” KJV
THE BIBLE 1 John 5:14 “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will , he heareth us:” KJV
TRYING TO BE LIKE GOD AND DO WHAT GOD DOES is exactly what Lucifer tried to do. Isa. 14:12-14, Lucifer said, “I will be like the most High.”
Now Christians, are following Lucifer’s example which got him expelled from heaven.
People want to be like God and do what He does, without Him.
Job 40:9 “Hast thou an arm like God ? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?” KJV
17. THE NEW AGE’S FAITH FORMULA The Secret - p. 68 (This is a distortion of Mk. 11:22-24).
1.
“Asking the Universe for what you want…” (Not God!)
2. “BELIEVING involves acting, SPEAKING, and thinking as though you have already received what you’ve asked for.”
3. “RECEIVING involves feeling the way you will feel once your desire is manifested.”
Notice: God is not in the formula anywhere. This is not asking God; believing God, or receiving from God.
Kenneth Hagin’s- FAITH FORMULA Mark 11:22-23
1. SAY IT,
2. DO IT,
3. RECEIVE IT,
4. TELL IT
“Exceeding Growing Faith” p. 77-85
Notice: Just like the New Age’s Faith formula, God is not mentioned in Hagin’s Faith Formula.
Satan IS CLEVER. HE comes as an angel of light. his biggest deception is to misquote or spin the scriptures, PERVERTING THEM to deceive the very elect.

*IN THIS ARTICLE I AM DEALING WITH UNSCRIPTURAL TEACHINGS REGARDING SALVATION, FROM MEN WHO HAVE DEEPLY IMPACTED ALL OF CHRISTIANITY IN THIS GENERATION.
1. KENNETH HAGIN- says, “Christ’s physical death on THE CROSS was not enough to save us.” Kenneth Hagin, “How Jesus Obtained His Name”, Tape 44H01.
KENNETH COPELAND- “It wasn’t a physical death on THE CROSS that paid the price for sin…anybody can do that.” (Kenneth Copeland, “What Satan Saw on the “Day of Pentecost”. Audio tape #BCC-19), side 1. (In the Faith Movement, where are the songs about The Cross?”). (See Article II).

3. JOHN HAGEE TEACHES A DUAL COVENANT, that is, that JEWS HAVE A SPECIAL COVENANT WITH GOD BECAUSE THEY ARE GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE AND DONOT HAVE TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST TO BE SAVED. He told the Houston Chronicle reporter, “I believe that every Jewish person who lives in the light of the Torah, which is the word of God, has a relationship with God and will come to redemption.” He teaches that the Jews are under a different covenant than the Gentiles. The Gentiles have to accept Jesus to be saved.1 (John Hagee is an associate with Kenneth Copeland and his colleagues)

THE BIBLE:
Rom 1:17 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to THE JEW FIRST , and also to the Greek.” KJV
Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is NONE OTHER NAME under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” KJV
Rom 3:24 “Being justified freely by his grace through THE REDEMPTION THAT IS IN CHRIST JESUS:” KJV
1 Tim 4:1-2 “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times SOME SHALL DEPART FROM THE FAITH , giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;” KJV
JOHN HAGEE TEACHES JESUS IS NOT THE JEWS MESSIAH
In his book In Defense of Israel (2007), beginning in the section called "The Jews did not Reject Jesus as Messiah" (p. 132) John Hagee incessantly twists Scripture in his attempt to prove that Jesus Christ did not come "to be Messiah to the Jews." He has denied that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah) repeatedly. Below are quotes regarding this from Hagee’s book, In Defense of Israel.
• “If God intended for Jesus to be the Messiah of Israel, why didn't he authorize Jesus to use supernatural signs to prove he was God's Messiah, just as Moses had done?” (p. 137)
• “Jesus refused to produce a sign ... because it was not the Father's will, nor his, to be Messiah.” (p 138)
• “If Jesus wanted to be Messiah, why did he repeatedly tell his disciples and followers to "tell no one" about his supernatural accomplishments?” (p. 139)
• “The Jews were not rejecting Jesus as Messiah; it was Jesus who was refusing to be the Messiah to the Jews.” (p. 140)
• “They wanted him to be their Messiah, but he flatly refused.” (p. 141)
• “He refused to be their Messiah, choosing instead to be the Savior of the world” (p. 143)
• “Jesus rejected to the last detail the role of Messiah in word or deed.” (p. 145)
COMPARE WHAT HAGEE SAYS WITH THE STRAIGHT FORWARD DECLARATIONS OF THE BIBLE:
John 1:41 “He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias , which is, being interpreted, the Christ.” KJV
Peter preached recorded in Acts 2:36 “Therefore let all THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.” KJV
Luke 7:19-23 “When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another ? And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.”
*John Hagee's words directly contradict the central message of the entire New Testament; that Jesus is the Messiah.
4. JOEL OSTEEN SAID IN HIS INTERVIEW WITH LARRY KING ON CNN THAT HE DOESN’T KNOW IF JEWS, MOSLEMS, AND ATHIESTS, WHO DON’T BELIEVE IN JESUS, WILL GO TO HEAVEN OR NOT. (See the interview of Joel with Larry King and its documentation on Aritcle II, “Minimizing God and Jesus; Exalting Man”).
THE BIBLE:
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way , the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” KJV
5. Kenneth Copeland-“WE HAVE HEARD THAT GOD WILL NOT FORGIVE A SINNER UNTIL HE CONFESSES HIS SIN, BUT THIS IS NOT TRUE.” Copeland, “The Force of Righteousness” p. 6-7.
6. Kenneth Hagin-says, regarding 1 Jn. 1:7-10 “If we CONFESS OUR SINS, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Hagin says this scripture is “NOT TALKING TO SINNERS HERE.” Kenneth Hagin “The Precious Blood”, p. 7
THE BIBLE:
Luke 5:32 “I came not to call the righteous, but SINNERS TO REPENTANCE .” KJV
Luke 24:47 “And that REPENTANCE AND REMISSION OF SINS SHOULD BE PREACHED IN HIS NAME among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” KJV
*Hagin and Copeland not only teach that sinners do not have to confess their sins to be saved, neither do they say anything about repentance in (their) plan of salvation in the back of their books. They both just talk about accepting Jesus.
Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, REPENT, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” KJV
Rev 2:5 “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and REPENT, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou REPENT.” KJV
Rev 2:21 “And I gave her space TO REPENT of her fornication; and SHE REPENTED NOT.” KJV
IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO REPENT UNLESS ONE CONFESSES HIS SINS FIRST!
IF ONE IS COMMITTING SIN, HE IS A SINNER, even if he says that JESUS IS LORD!
1 John 3:6 “Whosoever abideth in him SINNETH NOT : whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.” KJV
7. KENNETH COPELAND- “SINCE GOD IS NOT HOLDING OUR TRESPASSES AGAINST US…He is just waiting for us to accept Jesus”.
The Bible: Ps 7:11 “God is angry with the wicked every day.”KJV
John 9:39 “And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world,” KJV
OF COURSE ACCEPTING JESUS IS THE ESSENTIAL FIRST STEP TO SALVATION, BUT IT IS ONLY THE FIRST STEP.
--Rom 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” KJV
--REPENTANCE IS ALSO ESSENTIAL TO SALVATION.
Luke 13:3 “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye REPENT , ye shall all likewise perish.” KJV
Some just go through a formality of repenting and continue walking in sin.
--BEING BORN AGAIN IS ALSO ESSENTIAL TO SALVATION.
Jesus said in Jn. 3:3 “Except a man be born again, he shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Being born again is the work of regeneration, the changing of one from having a sinful nature into having a godly nature, the nature of God.
In most pulpits today, almost nothing is said today about SALVATION, REPENTING from one’s sins, being BORN AGAIN and LIVING BY GOD’S WORD. THE “NEW” GOSPEL today is just about accepting Jesus. That is NOT salvation!
SALVATION MEANS YOU ARE CHANGED ON THE INSIDE!
Millions just “accept Christ” and profess to be Christians, but they have not really experienced salvation, being truly born again. That is why so many professing Christians lie, steal, commit adultery, homosexuality; are involved in witchcraft, etc.
According to the Bible, these people who profess to believe in Jesus but live in iniquity are not truly born again, saved people. They are not truly Christians. The word “Christian” means to be a follower of Christ. Jesus called those who professed to love God and lived opposite His teachings, hypocrites.
Matt 7:15 Jesus said, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but INWARDLY they are ravening wolves .” KJV
The idea one can be saved and still live in sin comes straight from the doctrine of Eternal Security aka Once Saved Always Saved.
John 14:21 “He that hath my commandments , and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me:”
Matt. 7:21-23 “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: depart from me, YE THAT WORK INIQUITY.” KJV
SALVATION, being BORN AGAIN, means one is changed. One is spiritually not the same person he was before he got saved. He is no longer a sinner, but a regenerated man.
2 Cor 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: OLD THINGS ARE PASSED AWAY; BEHOLD, ALL THINGS ARE BECOME NEW.” KJV
Rom 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” KJV
Heb 2:3 “How shall we escape, IF WE NEGLECT SO GREAT SALVATION ; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;” KJV
*Salvation means that after you have been born again, if you were a thief , your not a thief anymore; if you were an adulterer, you are no longer an adulterer; if you were a liar, you are no longer a liar.
Matt 19:28 “And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in THE REGENERATION when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory,” KJV
Regeneration means being changed from your old sinful nature. That is being born again.
8. KENNETH HAGIN, “DON’T PREACH CONVICTION” “THEY THINK THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO KEEP THEM UNDER CONVICTION AND KEEP PRAYING IN THE ALTAR.” Hagin, “Paul’s Revelation, The Word of Reconciliation” p. 18-19.
Anyway one looks at this Hagin is teaching preachers they should not warn sinners of the consequences of their sins.
HAGIN IS IN CONFLICT WITH THE BIBLE:
Ezek 3:18 “When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and THOU GIVEST HIM NOT WARNING, NOR SPEAKEST TO WARN THE WICKED FROM HIS WICKED WAY, TO SAVE HIS LIFE; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but HIS BLOOD WILL I REQUIRE AT THINE HAND.”
JESUS BROUGHT CONVICTION ON SINNERS WHEN HE SPOKE.
John 8:7-9 Jesus said, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, BEING CONVICTED BY THEIR OWN CONSCIENCE, went out one by one,” KJV
2 Tim 4:2-4 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; REPROVE, REBUKE, EXHORT with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” KJV
John 16:7-8 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, HE WILL REPROVE THE WORLD OF SIN, and of righteousness, and of judgment: “ KJV
There is much talk about the Holy Spirit today, but virtually nothing is said of the work the Bible says the Holy Spirit came to do, to REPROVE THE WORLD OF SIN.
“Reproving” means preaching convicting messages.
9. KENNETH HAGIN-“He (God) DOESN’T WANT US TO GO TELL SINNERS THAT IF THEY WILL BE GOOD AND CRY HALF THE NIGHT, …HE MIGHT HAVE MERCY ON THEM AND DO SOMETHING FOR THEM. NO!” “HE WANTS US TO TELL THEM THAT GOD ALMIGHTY HAS ALREADY CANCELLED THEIR DEBT. HE IS NOT HOLDING ONE THING AGAINST THEM.” Kenneth Hagin, Paul’s Revelation, “The Gospel of Reconciliation” p. 18-19.
Let’s analyze what Hagin is saying here!
“DON’T TELL SINNERS ‘IF’ THEY WILL BE GOOD”
That is just the opposite of what the Bible says.
*3 John 11 “Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that WHICH IS GOOD. HE THAT DOETH GOOD IS OF GOD: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.”
*Deut 12:28 “Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou DOEST THAT WHICH IS GOOD AND RIGHT in the sight of the LORD thy God.” KJV
Ps 4:4 “Stand in awe, and sin not :” KJV
What Hagin is also saying in so many words is that ones behavior has nothing to do with his relationship with God. Nothing could be further from the truth.
1 Cor 15:34 “Awake to righteousness , and SIN NOT” KJV
Hagin, “DON’T TELL SINNERS…IF THEY WILL CRY HALF THE NIGHT”
THE BIBLE:
2 Cor 7:10 “For GODLY SORROW worketh REPENTANCE TO SALVATION” KJV
Luke 7:37-38 “And, behold, a woman in the city, WHICH WAS A SINNER , when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, And stood at his feet behind him WEEPING, AND BEGAN TO WASH HIS FEET WITH TEARS, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.”
Luke 7:44-48 “And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but SHE HATH WASHED MY FEET WITH TEARS, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. And he said unto her, THY SINS ARE FORGIVEN.” KJV
*HER WEEPING WAS A SIGN OF TRUE REMORSE for her sins and deep repentance.
THE PUBLICAN
Luke 18:13-14 “And THE PUBLICAN, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, BUT SMOTE UPON HIS BREAST, SAYING, GOD BE MERCIFUL TO ME A SINNER . I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” KJV
*Today when people come to accept Christ, most do not have a deep remorse for sin. Sin is not even factored in. They just add Jesus to their life, and don’t change.
Hagin says, “ HE (God) HAS ALREADY CANCELLED THEIR SINS”
It is true the price to cancel your sins has already been paid by Christ’s shed blood, but it is not true that since Christ paid the price to forgive your sins they are already cancelled. It is not an automatic thing. They are not cancelled until you confess your sins, repent and accept Christ as your Savior. It is an individual relationship with God.
Mark 6:12 “And they went out, and preached that MEN SHOULD REPENT.”
Most of Kenneth Hagin’s teachings about salvation came directly from E.W. Kenyon’s books. Kenyon was also a Baptist evangelist in his early years.
10. Hagin continues… we are not to beat “SINNERS OVER THE HEAD (telling them to repent) AND THEN WONDER WHY THEY QUIT COMING TO CHURCH.” Kenneth Hagin “Paul’s Revelation: The Gospel of Reconciliation” p. 18-19.
These statements show that Hagin was a pioneer in the modern CHURCH GROWTH MOVEMENT.
He says if we don’t beat “sinners over the head”, which translates “if we don’t preach against sin”, then sinners will come and stay in church.” That’s the exact same message Rick Warren, Bill Hybels, and Joel Osteen among others are giving. Joel Osteen grew up in the Faith Movement so he has been schooled well in this hybrid gospel.
Hagin and these other men are correct. If you don’t preach convicting messages against sin, but just preach about prosperity and success, the churches will have big congregations and a lot of money. But what do you have then? The church then is now just another social club of do gooders. Churches are full of self righteous sinners who say ‘Lord, Lord’, whose consciences have been seared with a hot iron and who are headed for hell. People are now just involved in doing “good works”. It is no coincidence the church is in the condition it’s in today.
PENTECOST HAS TRADITIONALLY OPPOSED THE DOCTRINE OF ETERNAL SECURITY. E.W. Kenyon, Kenneth Hagin and Kenneth Copeland have cleverly brought the doctrine of Eternal Security into Pentecost and the Charismatic Movement, in a language that hid what they were doing.
ETERNAL SECURITY, ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED DOCTRINE PROFILED
What is the doctrine of Eternal Security? It is the doctrine of Once Saved Always Saved, that is you can’t lose your salvation no matter what you do after you have accepted Christ.
This doctrine is taught in Martin R. De Haan III’s book “What Do we have to Lose? Salvation: Security”. (Note: Charles Stanley’s book on Eternal Security teaches the exact same thing).
1. “It is only when we realize that our salvation depends on our confidence in what Christ has done rather than on what we do.” p. 9 “What Do We Have to Lose?” Martin de Haan III.
2. “God justifies those He calls to Christ. In LEGAL TERMS, that means DECLARES RIGHTEOUS those who believe in His Son.” P. 17
3. “Because of spiritual immaturity, we often sin…but God responds in our defense. To our accusers He declares something like, “Who do you think you are to accuse someone whom I DECLARED RIGHTEOUS.” “The one you accuse of sin is one that I have PRE-CHOSEN and justified for Myself.” P. 17 (The doctrine of Eternal Security is coupled with the doctrine of Predestination).
4. P. 18 “Not under law but UNDER GRACE. This is the ultimate kind of IMMUNITY AND PERPETUAL PARDON.” (No matter what sins you commit).
5. “THE BLOOD OF JESUS PACIFIES PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE SINS, EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT REPENTED OF.” “What Do We Have to Lose?” De Haan III
6. Eternal Security is being taught in the name of the GRACE OF GOD.
This is perverting the grace of God!
Rom 6:15 “What then? SHALL WE SIN , BECAUSE WE are not under the law, but UNDER GRACE? GOD FORBID” KJV
Jude 4 “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, TURNING THE GRACE OF OUR GOD INTO LASCIVIOUSNESS” KJV
Rev 3:5 “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I WILL NOT BLOT OUT HIS NAME OUT OF THE BOOK OF LIFE,” KJV
Ex 32:33 “Whosoever hath SINNED against me, him will I BLOT OUT OF MY BOOK.” KJV
It’s impossible to blot someone’s name out of a book if it was in there at one time.
7. De Haan uses 2 Cor. 5:21 as his foundational scripture for teaching Eternal Security, “For He hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” (All cults come from attaching themselves to one scripture at the expense of ignoring other scriptures on the same issue).
A COMPARISON OF DEHAAN’S BOOK ON ETERNAL SECURITY AND THE TEACHINGS OF KENNETH HAGIN AND KENNETH COPELAND.
THE EVIDENCE THAT HAGIN AND COPELAND ARE TEACHING ETERNAL SECURITY:
*Kenneth Hagin, Copeland and DaHaan’s book on Eternal Security, all use 2 Cor. 5:21 as their primary scripture for teaching righteousness.
*Copeland…HOW CAN YOU CONDEMN WHAT GOD HAS MADE RIGHTEOUS.
COMPARE to DeHaan’s book on Eternal Security, “DeHaan, “Who do you think you are to accuse someone whom I DECLARED RIGHTEOUS.” p. 17.
Copeland and DeHaan are saying the exact same thing.
*Copeland and Hagin’s teaching on Righteousness is referred to as POSITIONAL RIGHTEOUSNESS, which is the same thing DeHaan and Charles Stanley teach on Eternal Security. Positional Righteousness means we are righteous because of what Christ did and not by anything we do.
It is true that we are not righteous even if we keep all of the Ten Commandments if we have not accepted Christ. But according to the Bible, we are not righteous if we continue in sin. I will deal with this more later to give an accurate overview on this issue. Note: The term POSITIONAL RIGHTEOUSNESS is a theological term which is not in the Bible.
*KENNETH COPELAND- “RIGHTEOUSNESS IS NOT THE WAY YOU ACT, NOR YOUR CONDUCT.” Copeland “The Force of Righteousness” p. 5.
COMPARE THIS to DeHaan’s book on Eternal Security. “It is only when we realize that our salvation depends on our confidence in what Christ has done rather than on what we do.” p. 9 “What Do We Have to Lose?” Martin de Haan III.
BIBLE 1 John 2:29-3:1 “ye know that EVERY ONE THAT DOETH RIGHTEOUSNESS Is born of him.” KJV
1 John 3:7-9 “Little children, let no man deceive you: HE THAT DOETH RIGHTEOUSNESS IS RIGHTEOUS, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.” KJV
1 John 3:10 “In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: WHOSOEVER DOETH NOT RIGHTEOUSNESS is not of God,” KJV
Deut 6:25-7:1 “And it shall be our righteousness, IF WE OBSERVE TO DO ALL THESE COMMANDMENTS before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.” KJV
Ps 7:11 “God judgeth the righteous, and GOD IS ANGRY WITH THE WICKED EVERY DAY.” KJV
*If you are committing SIN YOU ARE UNRIGHTEOUSNESS and WICKED, even if you claim to be in Jesus.
John 14:21 “He that hath my commandments , and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me:” KJV
Matt 5:20 Jesus said, “For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.” KJV
Hagin and Copeland’s teachings on Righteousness come straight from E.W. Kenyon’s book “From the Cross to the Throne”, p. 51. They also could come right out of the BAPTIST’S HANDBOOK. (Remember, Kenyon, Hagin and Osteen are all former Baptists).
*In Hagin’s book “The Precious Blood” he uses the terminology, “PERPETUAL CLEASING”.
COMPARE this to DeHaan’s Eternal Security book, “Not under law but UNDER GRACE. This is the ultimate kind of IMMUNITY AND PERPETUAL PARDON.” (No matter what sins commit, you are perpetually pardoned is what this is teaching).
THE KEY HERE IS THE WORD PERPETUAL. “perpetual” cleansing and “perpetual” pardon are VIRTUALLY THE SAME thing”. The Bible nothing about PERPETUAL cleansing or pardon. If we sin the Bible says we must confess our sins, repent. It is not PERPETUAL. There is a big danger of sinning willfully and taking advantage of the grace of God. He. 10:26, Rom. 6:15.
*Kenneth Copeland- “THIS IS VICTORY OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. SIN TURNED INTO RIGHTEOUSNESS!” Copeland, “The Force of Righteousness” p. 26.
To say SIN TURNED INTO RIGHTEOUSNESS is to redefine sin and make it mean the opposite of what it is. That would then redefine righteousness as sin. That would literally translate to mean that sin now is good and righteousness now is bad.
Rom 1:25 “Who changed the truth of God into a lie,” KJV
The Bible never says SIN TURNED INTO RIGHTEOUSNESS. It says THE SINNER who becomes born again BECOMES RIGHTEOUS through Jesus Christ. 2 Cor. 5:21. Sin stays sin! Sin never changes. What blasphemy to say “sin turned into righteousness”.
*KENNETH HAGIN-“SO JESUS’ BLOOD IS PRECIOUS BECAUSE OF ITS PACIFYING POWER; IT PACIFIES NOT ONLY THE BROKEN LAW, BUT ALSO A GUILTY CONSCIOUS.” Hagin “The Precious Blood p. 18.
COMPARE TO DEHAAN’S BOOK ON ETERNAL SECURITY, “THE BLOOD OF JESUS PACIFIES PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE SINS, EVEN IF THEY ARE NOT REPENTED OF.” “What Do We Have to Lose?” De Haan III
Both Hagin and DeHaan say “The Blood of Jesus pacifies sin”, which comes directly from the doctrine of Eternal Security.
What Hagin is saying is that the blood of Jesus soothes your conscious so that if you sin it doesn’t bother you anymore, it is pacified. You no longer are conscious of what the Bible calls sin.
This is what Jesus called having a REPROBATE MIND.
Rom 1:28-2:1 “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, GOD GAVE THEM OVER TO A REPROBATE MIND, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.” KJV
*KENNETH COPELAND- teaches we should have “NO MORE SIN CONSCIOUSNESS”, Copeland “The Force of Righteousness p. 7-11. (This is Eternal Security)
*KENNETH COPELAND-“TAKE THE NAME OF JESUS AND DRIVE OUT THIS SIN CONSCIOUSNESS” Copeland, “The Force of Righteousness” p. 7-11.
Again, this is teaching Eternal Security!
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT HAVING A CONSCIENCE?
Let’s look again at John 8:7-9 “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, BEING CONVICTED BY THEIR OWN CONSCIENCE, went out one by one,” KJV
1 Peter 3:21 “(but the answer of A GOOD CONSCIENCE TOWARD GOD,)” KJV
1 Tim 1:19 “Holding faith, and A GOOD CONSCIENCE ; which some having put away concerning faith have made shipwreck:” KJV
1 Tim 1:5-7 “Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of A GOOD CONSCIENCE , and of faith unfeigned: From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling; Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.” KJV
Acts 23:2 “And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all GOOD CONSCIENCE before God until this day.” KJV
It’s true that after we have made things right with God we are not to be conscious of past sins that are forgiven, but we are to be cognizant or conscience of sin so we will not fall into it again.
1 Cor. 15:34 “Awake to righteousness and SIN NOT”
Ps 119:11 “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” KJV
How will anyone even be conscious of sin unless he reads or hears the Word of God?
1 Thess 5:22 “Abstain from all appearance of evil.” KJV
You cannot abstain from the appearance of evil unless you are conscious of evil, and are aware of the difference between right and wrong.
Heb 5:14-6:1 “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised TO DISCERN BOTH GOOD AND EVIL.” KJV
1 Tim 4:2 “Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having THEIR CONSCIENCE SEARED with a hot iron;” KJV
Saying “Take the name of Jesus and drive out the sin consciousness” is unscriptural and blasphemous! If one follows this teaching he will end up in hell.
1 John 1:6 “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:” KJV
A PERSON WITHOUT A CONSCIENCE IS THE MOST WICKED AND DANGEROUS PERSON IN THE WORLD. THEY DON’T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE OF RIGHT AND WRONG.
1. KENNETH COPELAND-“THE ONLY SIN THAT WILL KEEP YOU OUT OF HEAVEN IS REJECTING JESUS.” Copeland, “The Force of Righteousness” p. 6-7.
If that were true, it would mean…
…as long as you don’t reject Jesus, you could commit adultery, lie, steal, commit homosexuality, etc., and still go to heaven.
This defies the Word of God.
Rev 21:8 “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” KJV
Furthermore, Copeland’s statement would mean…
…that anyone, Moslem, Hindu, etc., will go to heaven even if they don’t ACCEPT JESUS, as long as they don’t REJECT Jesus. If that were the case it would be best not to preach Christ so people wouldn’t have an opportunity to reject Him.
Acts 2:21 “whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” KJV
Acts 2:21 …is not being passive but pro-active towards Jesus.
2. KENNETH COPELAND-“THE BLOOD OF JESUS DID NOT JUST COVER SIN, IT REMITTED SIN, IT DID AWAY WITH SIN COMPLETELY.” Copeland, “The Force of Righteousness”
“It did away with sin completely?” This would mean that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SIN NOW. It would mean for a Christian that sin is now a NON-ISSUE. This would translate , in so many words, to say that JESUS CAME SO WE COULD SIN WITH IMPUNITY. THAT IS CLASSICAL ETERNAL SECURITY.
The truth is that the blood of Jesus has the power to cleanse from sin, but it did not eradicate sin from the earth. Sin is still a massive problem. The blood of Jesus cleanses the sins of those that call on Him and repent of their sins. It does not cleanse the sins of those who don’t repent and call on Him.
It is not true that Jesus did away with sin completely! Sin still exists. Otherwise, how would you explain why there is still war, murder, lust, fornication, stealing, lying, etc.
Rom 6:12-13 “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” KJV
MORE EVIDENCE HAGIN AND COPELAND ARE TEACHING VEILED ETERNAL SECURITY.
THEIR TEACHINGS REGARDING THE TEN COMMANDMENTS…
a. E.W. Kenyon, the mentor of Kenneth Hagin through his books, taught “IT WAS THE END OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS”. The Ten Commandments were done away with. Kenyon, “What Happened from the Cross to the Throne”, p. 50.
b. Kenneth Hagin, “SOME HAVE THOUGHT THAT BEING DOERS OF THE WORD MEANS TO KEEP THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. THAT IS NOT WHAT James 1:22 IS TALKING ABOUT. AFTER ALL, WE HAVE UNDER THE NEW TESTAMENT BUT ONE COMMANDMENT, LOVE.” Any way you look at this Hagin is saying that The Ten Commandments have been done away with, just like his mentor Kenyon.
It is not true that the Ten Commandments were done away with and now there is only one commandment, love. In his statement Hagin was referring to Mt. 22:37-40 “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” The problem is that he stops there and does not finish the verse. The rest of the same verse says, “On these two commandments HANG ALL THE LAW and the prophets.” KJV
In other words, LOVE is THE NAIL that HANGS THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD. Love doesn’t destroy the law. Jesus was saying that without being born again, loving God and our neighbors, it is impossible to keep God’s law.
c. FINIS DAKE’S Annotated Bible teaches THE TEN COMMANDMENTS HAVE BEEN DONE AWAY. This is the favorite Bible of Rhema, Hagin’s School.
d. SMITH WIGGLESWORTH in his book “HEALING” “YOU KNOW, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS…IS DONE AWAY WITH.” p. 81
Wigglesworth states "Those tablets of stone with their 'Thou shalt nots' are done away with, for they never brought life to anyone." He goes on to say, "You ask, 'Does a man who is filled with the Spirit cease to keep the commandments?' "I simply repeat what the Spirit of God has told here, that this 'ministry of death, written and engraved on stones' ("and you know that the Ten Commandments were written on stones") "is done away with".
Wigglesworth’s books are sold by Rhema. There is a pattern!
e. KENNETH COPELAND-“THE ONLY SIN THAT WILL KEEP YOU OUT OF HEAVEN IS REJECTING JESUS.” Copeland, “The Force of Righteousness” p. 6-7.
*Saying the Ten Commandments are done away with is in reality teaching that if you say you believe in Christ you are saved and can’t be lost no matter what sins you commit or how you live. Any way you look at it, this is the doctrine of Eternal Security.
LOOK AT THE TEN COMMANDMENTS THAT THEY SAY ARE DONE AWAY WITH:
Ex. 20: 3 “THOU SHALT NOT...
…have ANY OTHER GODS before me…shalt NOT MAKE ANY GRAVEN IMAGE…shalt NOT TAKE THE NAME OF THE LORD THY GOD IN VAIN…remember the SABBATH DAY and keep it holy (This is the only commandment that the New Testament makes a revision on... Rom 14:5-6), HONOR THEY FATHER AND MOTHER…thou shalt NOT KILL…shalt NOT COMMIT ADULTERY…NOT STEAL…NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS…NOT COVET.
You tell me which one of the Ten Commandments God did away with. If the Ten Commandments were taken away with, the world would revert to immorality like the ancient paganism, which in fact it has already done on the whole. Hagin and Copeland are in agreement with the ungodly who have taken the Ten Commandments out of the public schools and court houses in America.
*Jesus did away with the Levitical ORDINANCES (NOT THE TEN COMMANDMENTS) nailing them …the ordinances…to the cross.” He. 9:1 (This had to do with washings, etc.).
The New Testament reiterates The Ten Commandments and even expounds on them.
1 Cor. 6:9-10; Romans 1:28-29; Rev. 21:8, names the things that will keep you out of heaven.
JESUS DID NOT COME TO DESTROY THE LAW!
Matt 5:17 Jesus said, ‘THINK NOT THAT I AM COME TO DESTROY THE LAW, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.’ KJV
1 John 2:3-4 “And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and KEEPETH NOT HIS COMMANDMENTS, IS A LIAR, and the truth is not in him.” KJV
Rom 3:31-4:1 “DO WE THEN MAKE VOID THE LAW THROUGH FAITH? GOD FORBID: yea, we establish the law.” KJV
When Jesus interviewed the rich man about following Him, the Bible says Jesus loved him because he knew and kept The Ten Commandments. Lk. 18:21.
Jesus went further than The Ten Commandments. He said if you even LOOK ON A WOMAN TO LUST after her, you have committed adultery in your heart .
JESUS DIDN’T COME TO LEGALIZE SIN; HE CAME TO SET US FREE FROM THE POWER OF SIN.
Rom 8:1-10 “There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION TO THEM which are in Christ Jesus, WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, CONDEMNED SIN in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT.” KJV.
Those who believe in Eternal Security do not like the KJV. They use the NIV. In Rom. 8:1. Unlike the KJV, the NIV just says “There is no condemnation to them which are in Christ”, and STOPS THERE. The NIV deletes “WHO WALK NOT AFTER THE FLESH.” (See the article on www.lorendavis.com on “CHANGING THE BIBLE”). Kenneth Hagin and Kenneth Copeland also do not like the KJV, but use many different translations.
Rom 8:13 “For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.” KJV
COMPARE HAGIN AND COPELAND’S POSITION ABOUT THE TEN COMMANDMENTS BEING DONE AWAY, TO DEHAAN III’S BOOK ON ETERNAL SECURITY.
De Haan III says, “It is only when we realize that our salvation depends on our confidence in what Christ has done rather than on what we do.” p. 9 “What Do We Have to Lose?” Martin de Haan III.
This is just another way of saying The Ten Commandments are no longer relevant. It is the exact same position as Hagin and Copeland have taken. This is a doctrine of devils. 1 Tim. 4:1.
THE TEACHING OF THE “UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF GOD”.
Today we hear much about the UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF GOD. Serving God with no conditions translates into meaning that no matter how you live God will accept you. This is the doctrine of Eternal Security.
It is true God loved us and sent Jesus to die for us while we were sinners (Rom. 5:8). It is NOT TRUE that salvation, healing or the blessings of God are unconditional and that after accepting Christ we are allowed to continue living like sinners.
SALVATION is conditional: John. 3:16 “If you believe…you will be saved. If you believe not, you
HEALING is conditional: Matt 13:58-14:1 “And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” KJV
THE BLESSINGS of God are conditional: Deuteronomy 28. If you do what He commands you, you will be blessed. If you don’t, you will be under the curse. See also, Mal. 3:10.
THE SOLGAN “GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME”.
The Faith Movement has brought this slogan, “God is good all the time”, into most churches of all denominations. That slogan is nothing but a veiled cloak for the doctrine of Eternal Security, which insinuates that God will not hold man an accountable for his sins.
The Bible: Rom 11:22 “Behold therefore THE GOODNESS AND SEVERITY OF GOD: on them which fell, severity ; but toward thee, goodness , if thou continue in his goodness : otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.” KJV
The Bible talks often in the New Testament about the WRATH OF GOD towards the wicked.
Jn. 3:36, Rom. 1:18, Eph. 5:6, Col. 3:6, Rev. 14:10, 19; 15:1, 7; 16:1.
Ps 7:11 “God is angry with the wicked every day.” KJV
Heb 10:26-27 “For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.” KJV
THERE HAS DEVELOPED A “NO RULES CHRISTIANITY”
Rev 2:20-21 “Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to SEDUCE MY SERVANTS TO COMMIT FORNICATION, AND TO EAT THINGS SACRIFICED UNTO IDOLS. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.” KJV
THE NEW GOSPEL THAT HAS EVOLVED IS A “THIS LIFE” GOSPEL.
Today, almost nothing is preached about SALVATION, BEING BORN AGAIN; SIN; ETERNITY, HEAVEN, HELL OR THE JUDGMENT DAY. Sermons are just feel good, you’re alright,
“Christianized” success seminars. Whatever it will take to get a good crowd and a good offering.
Joel Osteen’s book, “YOUR BEST LIFE NOW” reflects this. It is a ME, HUMANISTIC, NOW Gospel which is following the same line as the New Age. His new book is “HOW TO BE A BETTER YOU”. His messages are not centered around Christ but around YOU. He is using the church to teach psychology in Jesus’ name. The essence of psychology is diametrically opposed to the Bible.
The biggest churches today mainly preach about prosperity, success and on “how great YOU are”. Their gospel is centered around “THIS LIFE”, not the AFTER LIFE. PREACHERS ARE NOT PREPARING PEOPLE FOR WHERE THEY WILL SPEND ETERNITY. This hybrid gospel is no threat to Satan’s kingdom at all. It has lulled God’s people into a deep spiritual coma and has contaminated the faith of millions. Hagin and Copeland are not targeting winning the lost. They and their allies target Christians, then do everything in their power to indoctrinate them with “their” perverted spin of the gospel. They have ravaged God’s people financially, diverting untold millions of dollars from God’s agenda of winning the lost and teaching sound Bible doctrine, into their own personal coffers. They have become very rich off God’s people while those who are preaching the “true” Gospel to win the lost are struggling.
There is little difference between their message and that of the atheists: ONE’S HEAVEN OR HELL IS IN THE HERE AND NOW. Today, that is all the church is thinking about. What they can get now. How rich can they become now. What is preached from most pulpits today is very little different from what the New Age is teaching. Sermons are little more that “Christianized” success seminars.

What does the Bible say about this?
Ps 17:14 “From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from MEN OF THE WORLD, which have THEIR PORTION in THIS LIFE,” KJV
1 Cor 15:19-21 “If in THIS LIFE only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.” KJV
2 Tim 4:10 For Demas hath forsaken me, HAVING LOVED THIS PRESENT WORLD” KJV
THE ISSUE ABOUT ETERNAL LIFE IS VIRTUALLY DEAD IN THE CHURCH TODAY, but not as far as what the Bible says.
Luke 10:25 “…what shall I do to INHERIT ETERNAL LIFE?” KJV
Rom 2:7 “To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and IMMORTALITY, ETERNAL LIFE:” KJV
Rom 5:21-6:1 “That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto ETERNAL LIFE BY JESUS CHRIST our Lord.” KJV
*THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH AND OTHER DENOMINATIONS TEACH THAT YOU MUST BE BAPTIZED IN THEIR CHURCH AND BELONG TO THEIR CHURCH TO BE SAVED. If that were so that would make the church the Savior instead of Christ. They make their members believe that they will go to heaven no matter how sinful lives they live, as long as they are members of their church and support them financially. Many churches are full of drunks, whoremongers, liars and thieves whose consciences have been seared. The wicked have been assured that their membership in their church and baptism are their passes to heaven, no matter how they live. There is no truth in that. This is just another form of Eternal Security.
CONCLUSION
As a direct result of the teachings of Kenneth Hagin, RHEMA, and Copeland, among others, there is virtually no hot convicting preaching against sin anhymore, especially in the Charismatic Movement. No one feels his need to repent of his sins anymore.
Amos 6:1 “Woe to them that are at ease in Zion ,” KJV
The Faith Movement leaders said that this is no longer the time of the preacher, it is the time of the teacher. That is totally unscriptural! (1 Co. 12:28-29). Teaching is important, but it is just one of the ministry gifts. None of the ministry gifts have ceased.
1 Cor 1:21 “…it pleased God by THE FOOLISHNESS OF PREACHING TO SAVE THEM that believe.” KJV
Heb 1:7 “Who MAKETH…HIS MINISTERS A FLAME OF FIRE .” KJV
The fire has gone out in most pulpits! Most messages today are cold and dead. They are just lectures that don’t have enough passion or power to even keep people awake. Most preachers are looking to find some cute little cliché or joke or gimmick to keep their people entertained just enough to keep them coming back to their church and keep them dropping an offering in the plate. They preach what people want to hear to pacify them instead of loving the people enough to preach the truth which will save their lives and souls. To them preaching is just a job. They have no burden for the lost. Jesus called it, “the blind leading the blind”.
MANY CHRISTIANS TODAY ARE NO DIFFERENT MORALLY THAN THE PAGANS.
*1 Peter 4:17-18 “For the time is come that JUDGMENT MUST BEGIN AT THE HOUSE OF GOD: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And IF THE RIGHTEOUS SCARCELY BE SAVED, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?” KJV
ANOTHER JESUS, ANOTHER SPIRIT, ANOTHER GOSPEL
*2 Cor 11:4 “For if he that cometh preacheth ANOTHER JESUS, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive ANOTHER SPIRIT, which ye have not received, or ANOTHER GOSPEL,”
*vs. 3…I fear your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity which is Christ. KJV
*2 Cor 10:4-5 “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the PULLING DOWN OF STRONG HOLDS;) CASTING DOWN imaginations, and EVERY HIGH THING THAT EXALTETH ITSELF AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” KJV
YOU MUST MAKE A CHOICE if you are going to follow prophets, apostles, preachers, your denomination or Jesus Christ and the Bible.
*Jer 5:31-6:1 “The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my PEOPLE LOVE TO HAVE IT SO: and what will ye do in the end thereof?” KJV
*Rom 3:4 “God forbid: yea, let God be true , but every man a liar;” KJV
IT IS TRUE WE ARE NOT SAVED BY WORKS BUT BY FAITH IN CHRIST, BUT WORKS ARE VERY IMPORTANT.
*James 2:18 “Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I WILL SHEW THEE MY FAITH BY MY WORKS.” KJV
*James 2:20 “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD?” KJV
*Rev 20:12 “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were JUDGED out of those things which were written in the books, ACCORDING TO THEIR WORKS.” KJV
IT’S YOUR CHOICE!
Josh 24:15-16 “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, CHOOSE YOU THIS DAY WHOM YE WILL SERVE ; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD. And the people answered and said, GOD FORBID THAT WE SHOULD FORSAKE THE LORD, TO SERVE OTHER GODS;” KJV
UNLESS THERE IS AN IMMEDIATE TURN AROUND, MILLIONS OF PROFESSING CHRISTIANS, EVEN THOSE WHO CLAIM TO BE SPIRIT FILLED, WILL MISS HEAVEN.
*Isa 14:9 “HELL FROM BENEATH IS MOVED FOR THEE to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee,” KJV
*Isa 28:18 “And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and YOUR AGREEMENT WITH HELL SHALL NOT STAND;” KJV
I HAVE ARGUED REGARDING SALVATION, COMPARING THE TEACHINGS OF RELIGIOUS GIANTS ON THIS TOPIC, WITH THE HOLY SCRIPTURES. Remember, no man’s revelation is above the Bible. The Bible tells us that no scripture is of private interpretation. 2 Pet. 1:20. IF THESE CORRECTIONS AND TEACHINGS ARE OFFENSIVE TO YOU, YOUR PROBLEM IS NOT WITH ME BUT WITH THE BIBLE AND THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. MAY YOU MAKE THE WHOLE COUNSEL OF GOD YOUR CHOICE.
*2 Peter 2:1-3 “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And THROUGH COVETOUSNESS shall they WITH FEIGNED WORDS MAKE MERCHANDISE OF YOU: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”
*2 Cor 4:2 “But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; “ KJV
*Gal 1:8 “But though we, or an angel from heaven, PREACH ANY OTHER GOSPEL unto you than that which we have preached unto you, LET HIM BE ACCURSED.” KJV
*2 Tim 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for REPROOF, FOR CORRECTION , for instruction in righteousness:” KJV
*2 Thess 2:12 “That they all might be damned who BELIEVED NOT THE TRUTH” KJV
*Matt 13:20-21 “But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or PERSECUTION ARISETH BECAUSE OF THE WORD, BY AND BY HE IS OFFENDED .” KJV
*Luke 7:23 “And BLESSED IS HE, whosoever SHALL NOT BE OFFENDED IN ME.” KJV
*Rev 2:14 “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to CAST A STUMBLINGBLOCK BEFORE THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, “
*Isa 8:20 “IF THEY SPEAK NOT ACCORDING TO THIS WORD, it is because there is no light in them.” KJV
*John 8:37 Jesus said, “ye seek to kill me, because MY WORD hath no place in you.” KJV
Matt 4:4 Jesus said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone , but by EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDETH OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.” KJV
AT THE DAY OF JUDGMENT, WE WILL BE JUDGED BY THE WORD OF GOD.
Rom 2:16 “In the day when GOD SHALL JUDGE THE SECRETS OF MEN by Jesus Christ ACCORDING TO MY GOSPEL.” KJV
