Catholicizing Africa: The catholic church and Constantine’s politics of hypocrisy

Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips :( Romans 3:13)

My Analysis

The Catholic Church is the most hypocritical church that Satan is most proud of. It claims to be pro-poor, pro-democracy and pro-justice but this is a big lie. The Catholic Church has made alliances with the most dictatorial leaders such as Hitler, Mobuto Kuku Wazabanga etc. Its spiritual pornography is incredible. Its diabolical Jesuits are part and parcel of many secret societies such as skull and bones, freemasons, etc.

Dodoma — MP Kingunge Ngombale-Mwiru yesterday urged the Roman Catholic Church to withdraw a pastoral document providing its members with guidelines on electing political leaders.

He said the document, authored by the Catholic Professionals of Tanzania and the Tanzania Episcopal Conference's Justice and Peace Commission, was "divisive" and could spark "unnecessary chaos".

Mr Ngombale-Mwiru, who was contributing to a debate on the Ministry of Information, Culture and Sports budget estimates in the National Assembly, said the church's move was against the principles of unity.

"I was surprised to see the document because during the era of the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Tanu, all leaders were united and used to jointly build our unity," he said.

Catholic leaders have defended the 18-paged booklet entitled 'Mpango wa Kichungaji Kuhamasisha Jamii Kuelekea Uchaguzi' (A Pastoral Project to Sensitise People Towards the Election).

They said the pastoral letter was not meant to divide the nation on religious grounds but was a way of ensuring that their believers were well-informed on political issues.

Among other things, the church leaders are seeking to influence their believers on how to question prospective holders of political office before the 2010 general election.

Part of the document says the country is experiencing "serious leadership problems" and calls on all Catholics to participate in the forthcoming elections to choose "good leaders".

The document highlights some "major challenges" the country has faced in the last five years. It highlights major areas voters should get convincing explanations from individuals seeking public leadership positions.

"We have been sent to our parishes and small (Christian) communities to sensitise the people... We aim to take action in rectifying bad things and strengthen good ones," part of the booklet reads.

The "sensitisation" project, which started in January this year, has 15 phases.
Although the Government has not formally responded to the document, individual politicians have commented on it and expressed mixed feelings.

Mr Ngombale-Mwiru becomes the second MP to comment on the move by the Catholic Church in the House. Previously, Kigoma South MP Manju Msambya (CCM) warned the move was a threat to religious tolerance.

Debating the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs' budget estimates, Mr Msambya said the document could influence people to choose national leaders on religious grounds. Mr Ngombale-Mwiru, a long-serving MP, said it was not the first time the Roman Catholic had done a similar thing.

"It is now a custom. Even in 2005, the church issued similar document." "I ask the church with all due respect to withdraw this booklet because we are one and would not like to be divided as is the case with Lebanon,"he said.

He said he was a "friend of the top leaders of the Catholics" and wanted "one nation in which we can live as one, without divisions".

"But now we have started shaking. This time it is the Roman Catholic, next the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania might come with its own, and so will the Anglican and Muslims,"he said.

Biya And The Catholics: Who Is Fooling Who?

For most of his nearly three decade reign Mr. Biya and the Roman Catholic Church have been jolly good friends. We remember very well Christian Cardinal Tumi telling us that there was a Cameroonian who had so much money it was disturbing. We remember the letter of the Bishops denouncing corruption and telling us that about one third of the country's resources went up in the consumption of alcoholic beverages. All of these were taken in stride by the Teflon Biya government and it was business as usual.

What has stirred the ship of state out of its usual complacency has been the recent declarations of CCFD the Catholic Committee against Hunger and for Development the Ngo which raised a lot of dust when it pointed its searchlights at the financial shenanigans of the heads of states of Gabon, Congo Brazzaville, and the Equatorial Guinea.

In its report made public on Wednesday June 24, the committee specifically pinpoints the "magnificent Villa Isis", in Roquebrune-Cap- Martin (Maritime Alps), belonging; it seems, to Franck Biya, the son of the president. Questioned by The Express, President Biya's entourage claims that this is "nothing abnormal for a man his son's caliber that heads an important forest corporation". Even more surprising to the CCFD is the aid (financial) provided by Cameroon to the Osti, an esoteric organization whose name had appeared, in 1999, as part of investigations into a sect known as the Order of the Solar Temple.

The Osti (initiatory temple of the sovereign Order) was founded in 1988 by Raymond Bernard. Now deceased, Raymond Bernard was known in 2006 for his Rosicrucian, Templar and Masonic activities, as well as for his financial links with French-speaking black Africa.

Presenting itself as "counsel" to Paul Biya, it asserted, in 1998, that he was president of honor of the Circes (a branch of the Osti) in his country and, by this very fact, therefore, unrepentant beneficiaries of Biya's extreme "generosity".
Indeed, in 1990, he even helped the organization in obtaining its Parisian headquarters located on the Beaunier Street (XIV). The loan amount was a whopping 40 millions French francs! And get this: it was repayable, with zero interest payment on the loan, in 99 years! Part of this sum was immediately poured out by the National Hydrocarbons Corporation, a Cameroonian public establishment, into the account of Raymond Bernard at Crédit Lyonnais.

Quizzed about this, the presidency denied all and any relations with the Temples, even guaranteeing that the Presidency has never "consented to such loan". Only problem: when questioned by The Express, Otsi does not deny that it has received the sum 40 millions French francs ( 4 billion francs CFA) from Paul Biya. In an email correspondence with the current association leader, Yves Jayet, he indicates that this loan "has been the subject of important reimbursements each year since 1999"!? The Grand Master does not specify the addressee into whose account the reimbursements are made.

This is the report which has sent Biya and his new Minister Rene Sadi running from pillar to post. They have organized solidarity marches with a rag tag nondescript motley collection of party hacks. They have geared the whole country up into sending motions of support and denouncing colonialism, blackmail, neo colonialism, capitalism and what have you. A few years ago a Honorable member of parliament from the SDF in Littoral a certain Manga Bell raised this matter in parliament about Mr. Biya's cavorting and giving aid and succor to an esoteric sect and it made no impact. The Catholic Ngo also recounted a declaration made twelve years ago by L'evenement du Jeudi that the fortune of the Biya family was about 46 billion francs.
Why are the Presidential feathers ruffled this time around?
The answer is clear; CCFD is a credible and respectable Catholic NGO whose report cannot be ignored.

The point is, do Cameroonians care two hoots about all this? Once more the puerile timorous and infantile reactions of Mr. Biya and his men have shown that they are dangerously out of touch with the Cameroonian psyche. We expect our President and his family to have money. We are, however, very disturbed when our diminishing oil revenue is used to shore up some esoteric and obscure sect.

In fact we are worried whether Mr. Biya and his minister of Justice who was himself embroiled in the tractor gate scandal have the moral high ground to continue prosecuting and imprisoning other Cameroonians We are a country with scant public accountability. Nobody has ever told us the president's salary. Nobody has ever questioned were Chantal gets the money she uses for her charities or the cost of the numberless presidential trips abroad.

We know that the country's money is the Presidents money. Mr. Biya is a our king and when we see him going into a tizzy about small change we are sorely disappointed .What we expect from our President is that he at least stops others from stealing from the sugar bowl, that he makes sure the lions qualify for the world cup, that the price of sugar and cement is down, that his own tribesmen stop disgracing him. Let him stop trying to fight the Catholics, he is sure to loose that battle.

Talking about the President being out of touch is gravely reflected in his new cabinet reshuffle. My daughter pointed out to me that the youngest Minister in Cameroon is older than President Obama of America. It is of note that Mr Biya himself has said nothing about this brouhaha. The people who are close to the man should let him come out and mix with the hoi-polloi so that he can understand that Cameroonians do not care whether he worships with the Catholics or an exotic sect.
