Kampala — THE Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, has called for unity among the different religious groups in the country.

Addressing born-again Christians during the International Christian Conference at Bethel Church in Kitende, Kitovu in Masaka district over the weekend, Bukenya noted that unity was crucial for development.

A statement issued by the Vice-President's office said Bukenya warned that divisionism would breed hatred and derail the national development priorities. People must love one another irrespective of their different tribes, religious beliefs, looks and political affiliations, the VP said.

He commended the born- again Christians for their devotion to God and asked them to pray for an end to the rampant cases of child sacrifice, murder and witchcraft. The conference dubbed "Wheat Barley and Vines Harvest Overnight" was organised by Pastor Irene Manjeri, the founder of the church.

The VP toured an orphanage run by the the church and planted a tree at the church premises in a move to encourage people to plant trees. Manjeri commended the NRM Government for ushering in the peace and pledged her support to the Government programmes.

She said the church urgently needed water, power and a road to run its projects. Bukenya promised to help the church to get electricity and water.
