Former Ethics minister Dr. James Nsaba Buturo has challenged spiritual leaders in the country to emulate President Yoweri Museveni by repenting and putting what has gone wrong for the quick transformation of the nation.

Buturo made the remarks yesterday while appearing on Vision Group’s Urban Point of Order on Urban Television.

“I call upon the church leaders to follow the example of the President who repented his sins and sins of the nation. They should repent and lead their followers into repentance so that our nation can be completely healed,” Buturo argued.

Asked whether the President’s repentance was genuine, Buturo said, “Absolutely. Repentance is between a person and God. I believe as time goes by, people will see the fruits of the President’s repentance.”

Calling for a protracted uprising against the high rate of immorality in the country, the vocal politician warned the nation about the deadly invisible battle for the soul of Uganda between the forces of wickedness and forces of righteousness.

“A nation’s safety and development cannot be sustainable if it is not anchored on good morals. We have to rise up and restore adherence to moral values in our society. What the President has done should act as the genesis of this moral revolution,” Buturo elaborated.

He praised President Museveni for the bold move he took to repent on behalf of the nation arguing that his act would go down in the annals of history as the practical step that led to the transformation of Uganda into a God-fearing nation.

While attending national jubilee prayers in the early morning of Tuesday at 2:00pm last week, the President openly repented saying,” I stand here today to close the evil past and especially in the last 50 years of our national leadership history and at the threshold of a new dispensation in the life of this nation.”

Dedicating Uganda to God to become a nation established on God’s principles of righteousness and justice, the President repented of sins of idolatry, shedding innocent blood, witchcraft, political hypocrisy, dishonesty, corruption, bribery, selfishness, pride, tribalism, sectarianism, sexual, immorality, drunkenness, hatred, bitterness, injustice, oppression and strife.

Sins like pride, selfishness, conflict, sectarianism, sexual immorality, dishonesty, hypocrisy, corruption and many others have also characterized the lives of Uganda’s spiritual leaders.

Buturo revealed that he and other concerned Ugandans would soon launch a new public campaign dubbed Citizens Coalition Against Immorality to promote adherence to the cherished moral values among Ugandans.
