The Washington Post reported that Evangelist Billy Graham offered his help to Mormon Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney. True Christians have always rejected Mormonism, and believe that it is indeed a cult, and it is listed that way in the best selling book “Kingdom of the Cults” by Walter Martin. [Edited by Ravi Zacharias] Considering the biblical command that true Christians are called to “earnestly contend for the faith” this is very disturbing.

Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. (Jude 1:3)

The scriptures make it very clear that true believers in Jesus Christ should not be “yoked” together with unbelievers. Why would any true Christian want to help and support a Mormon who teaches that Jesus Christ is the spirit brother of Lucifer?

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? (2 Corinthians 6:14-15)

I wrote an earlier article concerning the false teachings of Mormonism, which include the Mormon teaching that Jesus Christ is the spirit brother of Lucifer. You can read that article here: Is the MORMON “god” of MITT ROMNEY and GLENN BECK, the TRUE GOD or a FALSE “god”? Is JESUS the brother of LUCIFER?

Here is an excerpt from that Washington Post article from the “On Faith” section:

Billy Graham offered to “do all I can to help” GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in a Thursday (Oct. 11) meeting at the evangelist’s North Carolina home.

Romney campaign spokesman Rick Gorka told reporters after the visit that Graham told Romney: “I’ll do all I can to help you. And you can quote me on that.”

Another article from a website entitled  “The New Civil Rights Movement” revealed that the Billy Graham website “scrubbed” a statement which labeled Mormonism as a cult, shortly after the meeting between Billy Graham and Mitt Romney. Evangelist Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham, was also present at that same meeting. Franklin Graham is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

Billy Graham last night endorsed Mitt Romney for president, and shortly thereafter, his website was scrubbed of a statement Graham or his organization made calling Mormonism a “cult.”

As of June 5, 2010, if not much earlier, Billy Graham’s website stated:

A cult is any group which teaches doctrines or beliefs that deviate from the biblical message of the Christian faith. It is very important that we recognize cults and avoid any involvement with them. Cults often teach some Christian truth mixed with error, which may be difficult to detect.

There are some features common to most cults:

• They do not adhere solely to the sixty-six books of the Bible as the inspired Word of God. They add their “special revelations” to the Bible and view them as equally authoritative.

• They do not accept that our relationship to Jesus Christ is a reality “by grace through faith” alone, but promote instead a salvation by works.

• They do not give Jesus Christ, the divine Son of God, full recognition as the second Person of the Trinity, composed of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

Some of these groups are Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, the Unification Church, Unitarians, Spiritists, Scientologists, and others. [Bolding ours] FULL ARTICLE HERE

Billy Graham, Mitt Romney Meet

October 11, 2012 - Billy Graham and Franklin Graham met with Gov. Mitt Romney in the evangelist's Montreat, N.C. home today.

Evangelist Billy Graham, 93, issued the following statement after meeting today in his North Carolina home with presidential candidate, Gov. Mitt Romney:

"It was an honor to meet and host Gov. Romney in my home today, especially since I knew his late father former Michigan Gov. George Romney, whom I considered a friend. I have followed Mitt Romney's career in business, the Olympic Games, as governor of Massachusetts and, of course, as a candidate for president of the United States.

"What impresses me even more than Gov. Romney's successful career are his values and strong moral convictions. I appreciate his faithful commitment to his impressive family, particularly his wife Ann of 43 years and his five married sons.

"It was a privilege to pray with Gov. Romney—for his family and our country. I will turn 94 the day after the upcoming election, and I believe America is at a crossroads. I hope millions of Americans will join me in praying for our nation and to vote for candidates who will support the biblical definition of marriage, protect the sanctity of life and defend our religious freedoms."

Romney asks Rev. Billy Graham to pray for him

US presidential hopeful Mitt Romney met with Reverend Billy Graham on Thursday and asked the world-renowned evangelist to pray for him in the final weeks of the campaign.

"I'll do all I can to help you," said Graham, 93.

The Christian leader and his son Franklin Graham met with the Republican nominee for 30 minutes on the Graham estate in the Blue Ridge Mountains outside Asheville, North Carolina, where Romney held a campaign rally later in the day.

Appearing side by side with Graham could provide a major boost for Romney as he courts religious conservatives including Christian evangelicals, who he needs to turn out in large numbers on November 6 in order to win the election against President Barack Obama.

The meeting was closed to reporters, but photographers and video producers were brought in near the end, when the men appeared to be discussing the candidate's father George Romney, whom Graham considered a friend, the campaign said in a readout of the meeting.

When Graham asked what he could do for Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts said: "Prayer is the most helpful thing you can do for me," according to a transcript of that part of the meeting provided by NBC News.

Near the end of the meeting, Graham led a prayer for the Romneys, saying "I'll do all I can to help you. And you can quote me on that," according to the readout provided by a campaign aide.

Romney and the Grahams also discussed religious freedom, religious persecution, Afghanistan, and growth of the Grahams' ministry in China, Sudan and North Korea.

Billy Graham is among the most popular preachers in the world, and his mass gatherings and televised sermons played a major role in reviving the US evangelical movement.

He has been invited to the White House by every president since Harry Truman, and former president George W. Bush attributed his decision to stop drinking at the age of 40 to a discussion with Graham.

Graham rose to acclaim abroad after two widely publicized visits to North Korea in 1992 and 1994.

Article Calling Mormonism a 'Cult' Removed From Billy Graham Website

By Jeff Schapiro , Christian Post Reporter

October 16, 2012|4:51 pm

An article describing Mormonism as a "cult" was removed from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's (BGEA) website following Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney's visit with Graham last week.

The article described The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly referred to as Mormonism, as a group that "teaches doctrines or beliefs that deviate from the biblical message of the Christian faith." Other groups identified as cults in the article include Jehovah's Witnesses, Unitarians, the Unification Church, Scientologists and Spiritists.

The article was removed sometime after Romney, a Mormon, visited Graham at his Montreat, N.C., home last week. Ken Barun, chief of staff for BGEA, said in an emailed statement on Tuesday that the organization removed the article in order to avoid a debate, though he did not specify whether or not the candidate's visit had anything to do with the timing of its removal.

"Our primary focus at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association has always been promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We removed the information from the website because we do not wish to participate in a theological debate about something that has become politicized during this campaign," said Barun.

Following his meeting with Romney, the 93-year-old Graham said he was honored to have met the candidate, with whom he had the opportunity to pray.

"What impresses me even more than Gov. Romney's successful career are his values and strong moral convictions," said Graham.

He later added, "I will turn 94 the day after the upcoming election, and I believe America is at a crossroads. I hope millions of Americans will join me in praying for our nation and to vote for candidates who will support the biblical definition of marriage, protect the sanctity of life and defend our religious freedoms."

During his meeting with Romney, Graham said he would do "all I can" to help the Republican candidate, The Asheville Citizen-Times reports.

Issues surrounding Mormonism – and whether or not it should be defined as a Christian belief system – have stirred up strong emotions and some debate in Christian circles this election season. Some have even questioned whether or not it is acceptable for Christians to vote for a Mormon at all.

Franklin Graham, Billy Graham's son and the president and CEO of the BGEA, told The Christian Broadcasting Network in December 2011 that Romney's Mormon faith "doesn't bother me at all." The most important thing, he said, is for Americans to select the person who is most qualified to be president.

"You can have the nicest guy and he can be a Christian and just wonderful but have absolutely no clue as to how to run a country, you don't want that … Mitt Romney is a very capable fellow," he said.

He was also asked in an interview with MSNBC in February if he considers Romney a Christian.

"Most Christians would not recognize Mormonism as part of the Christian faith ... Now, of course they believe in Jesus Christ, but they have a lot of other things that they believe in too that we don't accept theologically," he said.
