Police are hunting for unidentified thugs who broke into two
churches in Mityana town council and made off with property worth ten
million shillings.
The thugs broke intoMityana Seventh Day Adventist church at Kiyudaya village in Mityana town council and St Noa’s catholic cathedral in Kiyinda.
Henry Kintu, the Mityana District Police commander says the thugs first raided St Noa’s catholic cathedral, where they stole two loud speakers.
He says they deployed sniffer dogs to try and track down the thugs in vain. Kintu says the same thugs raided Kiyudaya SDA church in the wee how of Monday and robbed several items.
Daniel Ssenuni, the Adventist pastor says the thieves took off with electrical appliances worth six million shillings. Ssenuni says they only realized that they had been robbed on Monday morning, when they saw the behind door at the church open.
He says the padlocks on the church doors and safes were all broken.
Mugisha Deborah, the church treasurer says the thugs took away the organ, loud speaker, amplifier and a television set. She says the items had been acquired with money contributed by Christians, and it would be very difficult to get more money to replace them.
Since the beginning of this, year, several churches have lost items to thieves.
Among them is Our lady of Fatima Mubende catholic parish, Kyengeza catholic parish, Kiganda Catholic parish and Kasambya catholic all in Kiyinda Mityana diocese.
