Walter Slonopas told The Tennessean that he resigned from his job as a maintenance worker at Contech Casting LLC because Christians consider “666″ to be the “Number of the Beast” and he did not want to go to hell.
“If you accept that number, you sell your soul to the devil,” he explained.
And Slonopas says that this is not the first time that he’s been assigned that number by Contech Casting LLC.
When he started work at the company in 2011, his employee card was supposed to be assigned the number “668,” but was stamped with “666″ instead.
A spokesperson for Revstone Corp., which owns Contech Casting LLC., said that an independent payroll company was responsible for printing its W-2 forms, but he was shocked that Slonopas had been assigned the number twice.
“I am completely at a loss for words,” Revstone Corp. vice president of sales and marketing Bob LaCourciere admitted.
LaCourciere promised that a new W-2 form would be in the mail by Tuesday afternoon, and said that the company would love to give Slonopas his job back.
For his part, Slonopas is refusing to file his taxes until he gets the new form. And he insisted that going back to work for Contech would send the wrong message.
“God is worth more than money,” he pointed out.
