Kampala, – President Yoweri Museveni has extended his congratulations to Prophet Samuel Kakande and his church on the successful construction of a new worship centre, describing it as a testament to Uganda's freedom of worship.

 

In a statement released on today, Museveni emphasized the National Resistance Movement's (NRM) commitment to ensuring religious freedom, rejecting the historical sectarianism that had divided the nation along religious and tribal lines. "The freedom of worship was a complex matter, perpetrated by politics of sectarianism based on religion and tribe, which had affected broader national unity, wealth, and development. We rejected all that," the President stated.

Museveni highlighted that under the NRM government, inclusivity and unity have been at the forefront, with no bias toward any religion, tribe, or race. “When we came into power, we made it clear that it was not the government’s role to judge which religion was right or wrong. That responsibility belongs to God, not to the government,” Museveni added.

The President concluded his statement by congratulating Prophet Kakande and his congregation once again and wishing them success in their endeavors. The newly constructed worship centre is seen as a significant milestone for Prophet Kakande's ministry and a reflection of the progress made in fostering religious harmony in Uganda.
