Museveni gifts Bishop Akanjuna with another vehicle after rejecting smaller one
On Saturday, Jane Barekye, State House comptroller delivered another monster vehicle, a $130,000 range Toyota Land Cruiser GR-Sport to Akanjuna at a function held at the bishop’s residence at Rugarama hill in Northern Division, Kabale Municipality.
Sam Arineitwe, one of the Christians who raised a complaint against the quality of the first gift says that their complaints were genuine and not materialistic because Kabale being a hilly area, the first vehicle could not help the bishop to effectively perform his duties.
Bishop Akanjuna hailed Museveni for listening to the concerns of the Christians. He said that he will use the vehicle to preach the gospel as well as mobilize Christians to embrace government programs like the Parish Development Model.
“I'm very very happy to receive the wonderful message from the president of the republic of Uganda. We have received this vehicle from the bottom of our hearts and we're very joyous to receive it. We thank Jane Barekye who has delivered this message. This vehicle as it is, is very strong, we shall use it to extend the kingdom of God because my work is to shepherd the sheep. I will be moving around the rest of Kigezi and even beyond Kigezi as I go to Kampala to have meetings. It is a strong vehicle that will take less time to reach there, and it is very strong, and I believe we shall use it purposefully to extend the kingdom of God,” said the Akanjuna.
The bishop returned the Renault Koleo to Barekye.
“I'm here to deliver a message from the president in the form of a donation for the brand new Land Cruiser to the new bishop of Kigezi. There is nothing that had happened. We delivered the car at his consecration, and because of the weather of Kigezi and the terrain, it could not climb the hilly mountains. So we went back to State House because the president always wants people to be satisfied with his donations, we went back and bought a car which was very fit for this terrain which is a Land Cruiser...Yes, we're supposed to take back the other one because it was not fit and the president always donates only one car to the diocese. So we're supposed to take back the other one which was not fit for the diocese and give it to any other beneficiary that deserved it,” said Barekye.
