Museveni to Christians, “In all struggles, put God First”
STATE HOUSE, ENTEBBE: President Yoweri Museveni has advised Christians in Uganda to encourage the masses to work and transform their lives through leading by example but not by merely talking.
‘Christians in Uganda should become examples in working. It is written in the bible that let your light so shine before men that they see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven, so that you influence people by example not just by talking,” he counseled.
The President was this afternoon virtually addressing Christians that had gathered at Rubaga Miracle Center to mark the World Prayer Day under the theme “The Day of Atonement”. Pastors Robert and Jesca Kayanja of Rubaga Miracle Centre hosted the ceremony with the chief intercessor Rabbi Kirt Schneider addressing the congregation live from Israel.
President Museveni expressed his gratitude to Pastor Robert Kayanja who distinguished the difference between work and a job urging Christians to embrace and implement the mandate given to them by God, of establishing dominion over all nature on earth.
He said in the emergence of any situation like viruses, droughts, floods or any other diseases, man should be able to control them as God gave us power of thinking, a blessing that no other creature on earth has. He added that God through his grace made us in his own image.
‘So we are small Gods here, we are made in the image of God. He gave us the power of thinking, which other creatures don’t have. In the book of Genesis it is clear that man was created on Saturday after God had created all other creatures. God gave man the mandate of establishing dominion over all nature,” he said.
Mr. Museveni observed that self-devaluation by Africans as raised by Pastor Robert Kayanja, was a departure from the path of God.
Commenting on ‘The Atonement’ or ‘Repentance Day’ President Museveni congratulated Christians for observing the occasion describing it as a very important one as the practice is that of holiness and righteousness.
‘You may call it the practice of the Jews but this is a practice of holiness and righteousness. Anybody who does this is a righteous person so I congratulate you and I encourage you,’ he said.
The President reminded the congregation that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and pointed out that he bears witness to this as they, in any struggle, put God first.
‘It could be why God has blessed us because we never have any evil other than defending ourselves and when we are not defending ourselves we respect everybody’s rights. There is no loss in listening to the message of Jesus. I can bear witness. This is what we have been doing for the last 60 years,” he said.
President Museveni thanked Pastor Kayanja and his wife Mrs. Jessica Kayanja for continuing to preach the message of God, adding that the message of Jesus was specific and summarized in the two commandments of loving God with all your heart and mind and loving your neighbor as you love yourself.
‘First of all know the importance of God, have God in your life and in all your actions. Secondly it helps in overcoming selfishness. If you love your neighbor as you love yourself you overcome all selfishness, forgiving unconditionally. Jesus said you should even love your enemies. Those who listened have added value to our lives,” he said.

12-hour prayer event planned in Uganda as Israel marks Day of Atonement
Israel comes to halt for solemn day of Yom Kippur.
A 12-hour prayer event has been planned in Uganda as multitudes in Israel and elsewhere around the world, mark the Day of Atonement, also known as Yom Kippur, Thursday.
It’s considered the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, and comes 10 days after Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year.
On Tuesday, Robert Kayanja, the senior Pastor of Miracle Centre Cathedral – Rubaga, explained that the virtual prayer event will be graced by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at the State House in Entebbe.
Additionally, Rabbi Kirt Schneider, the host of popular television program, Discovering the Jewish Jesus, will grace the event live from Israel.
“On Thursday, September 16th 2021, we shall be observing the World Day of Prayer from 6:00 am – 6:00 pm EAT. We will be praying all day as the Jewish people observe the Day of Atonement. Join us on Channel 44 and on all our social media platforms,” he wrote.
Yom Kippur is traditionally considered the date on which Moses returned from Mount Sinai after forty-days of praying for the sins of the Israelites to be forgiven. On his return, the Israelites were granted atonement for the sin of worshipping the Golden Calf.
Reports show that the central theme of Yom Kippur is atonement and reconciliation. Eating, drinking, bathing, using cosmetics, wearing leather shoes, and conjugal relations are all prohibited. It is a custom is to wear white on the holiday as a symbol of purity.
In Israel, it is a legal holiday. There will be no form of media communication, no public transport and all shops and businesses are closed, sources say.
This year the nation’s Health Ministry recommended that prayers be held outdoors due to the grip of a fourth wave of coronavirus.
Israel has has recorded over 1.1 million cases and 7,438 deaths since the start of the pandemic last year. It rolled out a COVID-19 booster shot campaign last month and already nearly 3 million Israelis have received a third dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.
