Julius the Untouchable, and Racial Polarisation

The purpose of these articles is to provide insightful comment on the contemporary South African and southern African scene from a Christian, “politically-incorrect” perspective, in order to counter the propaganda of the Reds, almost-Reds (liberals and others), religious Reds (“liberation theologians”), and all their fellow-travellers; and to encourage Christians to pray for the people of this beautiful but desperately needy part of the world, and especially for their Christian brethren living here; and to do what they can to assist them.

The Aftermath of the Terre’Blanche Murder

At the funeral of murdered right-wing white leader Eugene Terre’Blanche (see our previous article ), emotions ran high. Thousands of Afrikaner mourners streamed to the town of Ventersdorp. The atmosphere was palpably tense, and many Afrikaners expressed their fears of what is happening to the white population in SA. One white woman shouted, “That black group from Julius [Malema], it doesn’t matter to them who you are, if your skin is white they are going to kill you.” Another white woman said, “It is scary. I feel as if the world is coming to an end. It makes my heart beat faster from fear.”

The secretary general of Terre’Blanche’s AWB movement, Andre Visagie, told foreign journalists that the AWB would enter into negotiations with the SA government for a separate Afrikaner homeland. “We want protection for our farmers first and foremost,” he said. “More than 3000 [white] farmers have been killed by blacks in the past 14 years. We have had enough. We want to govern ourselves. We have our own culture and our own language. We are not going to take this any longer. We will first enter into peaceful negotiations with the government. If we don’t get joy in our negotiations we will then return to our nation and get a decision. Violence is the very last resort.”

Racial Tensions Have Increased

The South African Institute of Race Relations released a statement on the 6th April 2010, on the ramifications of the brutal murder of Eugene Terre’Blanche. In it, the SAIRR made the following comments:
“Racial tensions in the country appear to have increased significantly in recent weeks. This appears to be chiefly as a result of incitement by the ruling African National Congress to ‘shoot and kill’ the Afrikaner ethnic minority in the country. The anxiety around this incitement may well have influenced opinions across the broader white community.”

“In order to shore up support in the black community the ANC increasingly appears to be seeking to shift the blame for its delivery failures onto the small white ethnic minority, which today comprises well under 10% of the total population of South Africa.”

“The resurgence of a new political consciousness among minorities could... draw its strength chiefly from a hardening attitude in the white community but perhaps also in the Indian and coloured communities.”

“Should the ANC, however, find itself facing increased political resistance it will in many respects have a tiger by the tail. Firstly, the ANC depends greatly on the tax income paid by white South Africans to balance South Africa’s books. Secondly, it depends entirely on the food produced by a small number of white farmers to feed the country. Thirdly, white South Africans still dominate the skills base of the country. Finally, and most importantly, much white opinion since the early 1990s has been moderate. White South Africa has been willing and often eager to cooperate with the Government in building an open, non-racial, and prosperous South Africa. Losing that cooperation will to an extent put an end to any serious chance that the ANC has of leading South Africa to become a successful and prosperous democracy. While the ANC will be inclined to blame whites for this, and may even take drastic action to confiscate white commercial interests as they are currently doing in agriculture, these actions will be ruinous for the economy.”

It did not take long for possible evidence of an extremist white right-wing backlash to become evident. In early May, seven white South Africans believed to have ties to radical far-right organisations appeared in the Phalaborwa Magistrate’s Court on charges of high treason, the illegal possession of explosives, and the possession of unlicenced firearms.

One man was believed to have been manufacturing weapons and ammunition on his farm, and according to Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa, he was also planning to “plant explosives in black townships.” The charges against two of the men were later dropped due to a lack of evidence.
It is too early to tell what will come of their trial, but indications are that in the wake of the Terre’Blanche murder, certain radical elements are beginning to plan to retaliate.

Malema Defiant, and the ANC’s Contempt for the Judiciary

After Terre’Blanche’s murder, which made international headlines just when it would hurt the ANC most – in the run-up to the Soccer World Cup being held in South Africa – the ANC called for leaders to show restraint; and in addition, a court banned the singing of “Shoot the Boer”, the favourite song of firebrand ANC Youth League leader, Julius Malema. The question on everyone’s lips was: would Malema abide by the ruling?

Well, in early April Malema said the song would not be sung in South Africa. “But,” he quipped, “we will continue to sing it outside of South Africa. This song is in exile now. When we want to enjoy it we will go to exile and sing it.” He criticised the court ruling, the courts themselves, and the Constitution of the country. But he said the ANC Youth League respects the law, despite it being “managed and presided over by untransformed people” – ANC-speak for white people who do not support the ANC’s revolutionary “transformation” of the country. This was a lie anyway, as neither Malema nor the ANC care two hoots for the law if it stands in their way, as they have demonstrated for the world to see.

And the ANC itself said that it was appealing against the court ruling regarding the song. “We find it very unfortunate that when the court heard the matter and came to the unconstitutional finding, the ANC, an interest party central to the matter, was neither alerted nor allowed to make an input,” the party said.
All these things plainly indicate that the ANC only suffers the courts for the time being. It longs for an absolute dictatorship, as has been enjoyed by other African countries after their revolutions. The time may be coming when the ANC will ignore the judiciary completely, as happens in Zimbabwe.

Malema’s Outburst Against a White Journalist

Malema, meanwhile, continued to show his true colours, his hatred for whites, his arrogance and belief that he is above the law and above everyone in the country. At a media briefing on the 8th April he lost his temper and swore at a white BBC journalist. When he criticised Zimbabwe’s opposition party, the MDC, saying it should go back to Zimbabwe instead of working from offices in the upmarket Sandton suburb of Johannesburg, BBC journalist Jonah Fisher pointed out that Malema himself lives in Sandton. This remark brought down a barrage of insults from Malema. “This is a building of a revolutionary party and you know nothing about revolution,” he shouted, “so here you behave or else you jump.”

When Fisher tried to respond, Malema continued: “Chief, can you get security to remove this thing here?” Then he said, “If you are not going to behave, we are going to call security to take you out. This is not a newsroom this; this is a revolutionary house and you don’t come here with your white tendency. Don’t come here with that white tendency, not here; you can do it somewhere else. If you’ve got a tendency of undermining blacks, even where you work, you are in the wrong place.” “That’s rubbish,” Fisher replied. Malema then told him to leave, swearing at him: “You are a small boy, you can’t do anything. B – [expletive], go out, you — [expletive] agent.”

After the outburst, the ANC leadership for the very first time publicly condemned Malema’s behaviour. But public condemnations are one thing, real action is another. And when President Jacob Zuma himself delivered a mild public rebuke to Malema for singing his song, his statements about the murder of Eugene Terre’Blanche, his intervention in the Zimbabwe matter and his attack on the journalist, Malema remained defiant, saying he was shocked at the rebuke.

Why Malema Appears Untouchable

Just exactly why is it that this young upstart, Julius Malema, now wields such power, not only as president of the ANC Youth League but even evidently over the top leadership of the ANC itself? Why is the leadership so afraid to act against him?

There really can be only one answer: they fear him. But why do they fear him? Two reasons: because of his immense popularity with the black youth, and because he has something on them! He has dirt on them which, if released, would greatly damage their political positions. This was admitted by Dinga Nkhwashu, an ANC and ANC Youth League member and a practising attorney and consultant. In a major article in a South African newspaper he said: “Malema has leverage over Zuma and the bulk of his NEC [National Executive Council] because he knows a lot of unsavoury and compromising things about them that they would rather the public and the membership of the organisation did not know.”

He went on to say that a newspaper, the Mail and Guardian, “almost uncovered the truth when it spoke to one politician in Limpopo who summed it up to the effect that all he (Malema) does is find out some unpleasant or compromising thing about you and then use it to blackmail you.”

This explains why, when a meeting was finally held between the ANC and the ANC Youth League, supposedly to take strong action against Malema, President Zuma lost the face-off with him. A statement was issued afterwards in which the ANC indicated it had not instituted any official disciplinary procedures against Malema, but that “various processes” will determine whether Malema will be officially charged with misconduct sometime in the future. That was it. Malema is untouchable. He took Zuma on and beat him. According to some sources in the know, Zuma was told by Malema that the Youth League had supported him and brought him to power, and hinted that he could be removed just as former President Thabo Mbeki was removed.

Malema Calls for the Nationalisation of Mines

In early May, Malema defiantly said that the nationalisation of SA’s mines was still on the agenda of the ANC despite government denials. “Other people can go around and make assurances that mines will never be nationalised, yet the reality of the situation is that the nationalisation of mines is currently on the agenda of the ANC,” he said.

The truth is, this is what all sensible South Africans know: that the ANC speaks with a forked tongue. It may deny that nationalisation is in their plans, but the ANC is governed by its Communist Freedom Charter, and that calls for such nationalisation.

Malema also praised Venezuela’s Communist president, Hugo Chavez, after he paid a visit to that country.

Malema Lightly Toasted, Not Roasted at “Disciplinary Meeting” Farce
Finally, in May, after an internal ANC farce of a “disciplinary meeting”, Julius Malema was ordered to “apologise”. But – apologise for what, exactly? One South African daily had the headline: “ANC roasts Malema”; but this was simply not the case at all. Although he was originally charged with publicly supporting Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party in Zimbabwe, swearing at the BBC journalist, and singing “shoot the boere” after the song was banned by the high court, these charges were withdrawn during his disciplinary hearing after a plea bargain was reached! And the only charge against him that remained, and for which he was found guilty, was that of his public attack on President Jacob Zuma because Zuma had mildly rebuked him in public! He was ordered to apologise to the president, to attend “anger management classes”, to pay a R10 000 fine, and to attend the ANC’s political school for twenty days.

In a letter to the paper, which was published, I wrote the following:
“‘ANC roasts Malema,’ read the headline. Really? Julius Malema had to apologise for publicly attacking President Jacob Zuma and undermining his stature. But did he apologise for singing ‘shoot the boer’ and thereby inciting violence against whites? No. This charge was withdrawn. Yet now we’re expected to believe that Malema is contrite and humbled. He wasn’t roasted at all – he was lightly toasted, nothing more. The African National Congress is far more concerned about Zuma being verbally attacked than about South Africa’s whites being physically attacked by thugs who are egged on by Malema’s racist incitements to violence. Sorry, but we’re just not all cut up over Zuma’s embarrassment because Malema’s mouth undermined his stature. It’s just so inconsequential in the light of the thousands of white farmers who are being murdered.”

Conclusion

Let me conclude with the same words I used at the conclusion of the previous article:
One thing is very clear: tensions are rising between whites and blacks in the country, and with every racist, inflammatory statement made by Malema and his ilk, SA moves one step closer to the possible attempted genocide of white South Africans, which will lead to civil war. No one should underestimate what is happening in SA. These are very unhappy times, and unless something is done, and soon, by the ruling party to defuse the situation, this country could so easily slide into a state which all right-thinking people desperately want to avoid.
We call upon true Christians to pray for South Africa, and for their brethren living here. The country is once again staring into a horrifying racial abyss.
