Ugandan Acid Attack Victim Mulinde Speaks Up

http://allafrica.com/stories/201208161072.html

By Vanessa O'brien, 15 August 2012

opinion
Tel Aviv — Bishop Umar Mulinde of the Pentecostal Gospel Life Church International is a well-known public figure in Uganda, notably because the former Muslim Sheikh converted to Christianity in 1993. In 2011, he and a group of religious leaders petitioned Parliament and won a temporary stop to the Muslim Personal Law Bill, giving provision for the legal establishment of Islamic courts in Uganda. After a brutal acid attack, he now tries to recover in Israel from his physical damages. Contrary to his body, his mind hasn't been broken.

With a low-tipped cowboy hat and pink-flesh coloured compression mask hiding his scars, Umar Mulinde (38) moves gingerly across a Tel Aviv hotel lobby, sheltered from the scorching hot Israeli sun. A heavy tiredness envelops him as he finally sits down after his daily trawl to Sheba Hospital, half an hour away in Ramat Gan, which is treating the deep acid burns that scar the right side of his face.

It's hard to believe it's the same man seen in a variety of YouTube clips, energetically preaching like a firebrand in his native Uganda - until he speaks with unwavering conviction. "The people who did this to me, they thought they are serving God. But I feel sorry for them and I forgive them, because they didn't know what they were doing."

Allah akbar
Mulinde was attacked on Christmas Eve 2011, right outside the Pentecostal Gospel Life Church International where he is pastor, and directly opposite a police station in Namasuba, 10 kilometres from Kampala. Two assailants approached him and threw an unidentified acid directly at his face. "As I was opening the door of my car, one poured a bucket of acid on my head," Mulinde recalls. "I had fire from the head up to the toes, to the legs down."

As he coupled over, the second attacker poured acid over his back. The acid that missed Mulinde burned a hole through the metal of his car, demonstrating its potency. Mulinde's last recollection of the assault was hearing the words 'Allah akbar' echoed three times. He thought he was going to die.

Fatwa
It wasn't the first attack on his life. Mulinde is a well-known public figure in Uganda, notably because he is a defector, a former Muslim sheikh, the grandson of an imam, who converted to Christianity on Easter Sunday in 1993. Mulinde says from that time forward, even his own brothers wouldn't greet him in the street.

But it wasn't until he led a group of Christian leaders to petition Parliament with 360,000 signatures, and won a temporary stop to the Muslim Personal Law Bill in April 2011, that a fatwa was issued against his life.

The Muslim Personal Law Bill aims to operationalise Article 129 of the Ugandan Constitution, giving provision for the legal establishment of Islamic courts in Uganda and the administration of justice to the Muslim community under sharia law.

"We even told the government that if they do it and go ahead we will sue them," Mulinde says passionately, while adjusting the dark shades that cover his one good eye, as well as the one that doctors were unable to save. "We will take it to the court of law because if Uganda is 85 percent Christian, and we have never asked for Christian laws in the constitution, how do you put Muslim laws in the constitution? The constitution says that Uganda is a secular state."

Not only for Muslims
More than a year later, the Ugandan Muslim Centre for Justice and Law (UMCJL) is once again trying to expedite having the Islamic courts, which currently operate ad-hoc, legalised. UMCJL president Jaffer Senganda, who knows Mulinde personally, told Radio Netherlands Worldwide that he doubts Muslim involvement in Mulinde's attack. He says the Christian opposition in Uganda was afraid that Islamic courts would have jurisdiction in criminal matters, which isn't true.

When posed with that statement, Mulinde counter-argues that the Christian population's fears were validated by Nigeria's example. "They said, 'This is for Muslims' but they end up applying it to everybody." He believes that Islamic courts will only legalise the persecution of the type of crime he has been a victim of.

Hope
Although Mulinde was raised to hate Israel as a Muslim, he had a change of heart when he converted to Christianity. He has brought several groups of Ugandan pilgrims to the Holy Land and established friendships in the Jewish community. Sheba Hospital's burn unit, which has treated several traumas from terror incidents, is treating him for free.

"He has a long way to go," says Sheba Hospital spokesman David Weinberg, "but his story is one that played on our hearts." Mulinde's treating doctor Haik Yosef says while the physical damage to Mulinde is "severe and deep", his future prognosis is good. "Some people get small scars and become depressed, but sometimes even such a severe burn like Umar's won't change his character or his perception of everything. I think he will do just fine."

The attack has not deterred Mulinde: he still fights the establishment of Islamic courts, and will continue his campaign on the ground when he returns to Uganda in several months time. But first, he has three more surgeries and skin grafts to endure.

Apology to Hon. Janet Museveni

Posted  Sunday, September 23  2012 at  16:43
On Monday, May 21, 2012 we published a story, ‘Karamoja leaders accuse First Family of land grabbing’ in which Members of Parliament from Karamoja region alleged, during a press conference at Parliament, that land in Karamoja had been illegally and fraudulently sold and leased without the consent of the customary land owners.

One of the Members of Parliament stated that it was alleged that the companies belong to members of the First Family. On Thursday, May 24, 2012 we published a follow-up story in which we named the directors of the said companies, none of whom was a member or associate of the members of the First Family.
On Sunday May 27, 2012, under the ‘Flowers and Frowns’ column, we published a comment, in the parliamentary column, which claimed that the MPs had accused the First Lady, Hon. Janet Kataha Museveni, who is also minister in-charge of Karamoja, of hiding behind front companies to grab land in the area.

This was wholly inaccurate. The MPs from the area did not accuse the First Lady during their press conference. None of them named her; neither did we find any evidence to link her to the said companies. The story published was therefore based on a flawed premise and the language that was used in reference to the First Lady is regrettable.

We would, therefore, like to fully retract the story published on Sunday May 27, 2012 and apologise to the First Lady, Hon. Janet Museveni, for the injury this has caused her and her family and to our readers for any inconvenience this might have caused them. Our newspapers remain committed to the pursuit and publication of truth every day, and to the timely clarification of mistakes when they occur.

A reaction to ‘Innocent Muslims’ with a difference :Remain calm, Muslims Cleric urges Ugandan Muslims : Mean while In Pakistan, at least 20 killed on day of protest against incendiary video

Remain calm, Muslims urged

Muslims have been urged to remain calm and disregard the recent film which reportedly demonized Islam and Prophet Mohammad.

Delivering their messages during Juma prayers on Friday, leaders strongly condemned the film but appealed to Muslims to exercise calmness.

“This should not divert you from your principles. It should only give you courage to strengthen your faith. The films are a figment of people’s imaginations and are not true,” Sheikh Rajab Kakooza said.

Kakooza who was addressing Muslims at Old Kampala Mosque, described the film and cartoons as acts of “aggression and provocation” to the Muslim fraternity.

He appealed to Muslims to desist from any kind of protest but condemn the act in the strongest possible terms.

At Kibuli Mosque, Sheikh Muhammad Kasule strongly condemned the film but appealed to the faithful to just loathe it.

“These things are not new in the history of Islam. The early Muslims encountered suffering and adversity. The Prophet was insulted; tribes plotted against him, he was stoned but remained resolute and accomplished his mission,” Sheikh Kasule remarked.

He added that the only way Muslims can express their disapproval is by hating the act deep in their hearts and not resort to violence.

At Kansanga mosque, Sheikh Twaha Bbaale asked Muslims to stick to Islamic foundations and avoid being driven away by extremists whose intentions are unknown.

“These people have a motive which we can’t tell. That’s why they keep on provoking us. Just ignore and continue reading the Koran to guide you on how to overcome such difficulties,” Bbaale implored.

At Wandegeya, Sheikh Nasif Kakembo urged Muslims to be patient and learn from Prophets like Ibrahim and Yusuf who with Allah’s guidance defeated their enemies.

“The patience and self-sacrifice these Prophets exercised enabled them to win God’s blessings and He was pleased with them,” he added.

Kyambogo University Imam, Sheikh Abdul Nasir Mutyaba said Muslims should ignore and concentrate on the pilgrimage.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan’s officially declared “Day of Love for the Prophet Muhammad” devolved into deadly violence in major cities Friday as tens of thousands of Pakistanis angrily demonstrated against an Islam-mocking YouTube video, although calm generally prevailed in other predominantly Muslim countries.

At least 20 people died and more than 150 were injured in the protests in Pakistan, authorities said — the highest one-day death toll since protests began over the video on Sept. 11. The demonstrations have spread to about 20 nations.

The government’s announced effort to tamp down anger by providing a national holiday for peaceful protest clearly backfired, offering instead what seemed like an official sanction to violence.

Critics called the holiday a pandering attempt to please hard-line Islamist parties, whose influence has been on the rise here in recent years.

“This was a terrible idea,” said Mehreen Zahra-Malik, a columnist with the News, a national English-language daily. “It was time to calm people down and not give a stamp of approval to protesters, many of whom would just use it as an excuse for violence. . . . There was clearly going to be violence.”

Another commentator, Marvi Sirmed, said on Twitter: “It is sad, so very sad that we could never make a government realize that they don’t have to kneel before mullah,” a reference to Muslim clerics.

Despite repeated U.S. disavowals of the privately made video and denunciations of its content, many Pakistanis remained unconvinced, seeing it as an intentional calumny against the prophet Muhammad.

Most of the fatalities and destruction came in the southern port city of Karachi, where Saghir Ahmed, health minister for Sindh province, said 14 people died, including two policemen shot by rioters. At least 80 people were wounded, Roshan Ali Shaikh, the city’s police commissioner, said.

In the northwestern city of Peshawar, rescue workers and other officials said six people were killed, including a policeman and a member of a television crew, in rampages that also left about 60 people wounded. Television journalists on the scene said police opened fire with live rounds as mobs torched two movie houses.

Demonstrators also battled security forces for the second day in the usually calm capital, Islamabad, in the north. They blocked major highways there and in neighboring Rawalpindi and set a tollbooth and vehicles on fire.

Fourteen police officers were injured in the chaos, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said. The Pakistani army was mobilized and successfully protected the U.S. Embassy, presidential residence and Parliament building.

In the eastern city of Lahore, officials said 12 riot police officers and four protesters were injured during pitched battles involving thousands of demonstrators.

The rioters in all four cities targeted U.S. diplomatic facilities but failed to reach them, thwarted by Pakistani police and paramilitary forces who had set up barbed-wire barricades and steel shipping containers to deter demonstrators.

Striving Tooth And Nail to Defend False Doctrine: Msgr J.W. Katende Joins Archbishop Of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga In The Ridiculous Defence Of Mary Worship

The word of God says :

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. (Exodus 20:4)

And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.(Numbers 21:9)

Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. He removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brasen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan. He trusted in the Lord God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.  For he clave to the Lord, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the Lord commanded Moses. And the Lord was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.(2 Kings 18: 1, 4-7)

29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent(Acts 17:29-30)

What Catholic ministers in the figment of their imaginations say:

Catholics use the holy images, paintings and other artistic devices to recall persons or things depicted. “Just as it helps one to remember one’s mother or father by looking at her or his photograph; images also help Christians to recall saints by looking at their pictures or statues,” The Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga

Houses of worship are abodes of God. Icons of saints are highly venerated because of their closeness to God. Religious images, thus, help us to approach God’s beauty; stir us into a sense of wonder and deep emotions of holy joy. It is through such works of art that finite humans express their thirst and search for the infinite. Holy Scriptures too are images of God’s speech. God forbade the worship of images, but he did not forbid venerating them for his greater glory and honour. Instead, he actually commanded their use in religious contexts. During the plague of serpents sent to punish the Israelites during the Exodus, God told Moses to make a statue of a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole so that whoever was bitten and looked at it with faith would be healed. We need them in today’s climate of secularism.   Msgr J.W. Katende

A Former catholic says :

As a faithful Catholic, and later as a nun, I practiced Mary worship for many years without realizing it.  The prayers and practices were so familiar.  They were taught to me by good people, sincere people that I trusted.  I prayed rosaries and wore a scapular and engaged in other “devotions” which I honestly thought were good and pleasing to God. Because of my lack of knowledge of the Bible and of Church history, I honestly had no idea that I was actually worshipping Mary. If modern Catholic teachings and doctrines about Mary are true, then they will not be contrary to Scripture, the writings of the Early Fathers, or the decrees of past popes.  For a devout Catholic to question these issues and put them to the test can be painful.  It certainly was for me.  However, it would be far more painful to have God correct us when we face Him on Judgment Day. Mary Ann Collins (A Former Catholic Nun

The watch man says:

These images the Catholics worship are simply figments of their Imagination and therefore a lie. That is why the statues of Mary can be black , white , yellow etc. These statues of Mary do not resemble and therefore they depict different Marys. None  of these people who make these statues knows how Mary or Jesus of the bible  looked like. If  mages and pictures help Catholics to reflect on Jesus Christ Himself and his saints just as one would look at a picture of his or her beloved one or parent and vividly remember as if that person was still living. How can an imaginary image help you to recall some body whom  you do not know how he or she looked like. If Icons of saints are highly venerated because of their closeness to God, how can a human imagined image have any closeness to God. How can someone’s Imagination of how my great grand father who lived 600 years ago help me to vividly remember that person as if he is still living. These catholic priests claim to be logical but a close scrutiny of their arguments reveals incredible ambiguity and fallacious reasoning.  They are of their father the devil who was a liar from the beginning and abode not in truth because there is no truth in him(John 8:44).
For example the statement,’’ Religious images, thus, help us to approach God’s beauty; stir us into a sense of wonder and deep emotions of holy joy’’ from Fr.Katende is unscriptural , vague, ambiguous and therefore meaningless.

Do faith images increase faith?

Publish Date: Sep 19, 2012

By Msgr J.W. Katende

A pilgrimage to the Holy Land, where religious images feature prominently, calls for a sound appreciation of God’s commandment against the making and worshipping of images (Ex. 20:4–5).

Ironically, the Holy sites are, primarily, images of the presence and marvels of God. Mt. Sinai is the Mountain of God; great prophets like Moses and Elijah encountered him there.

It is the site of the 10 Commandments.

Jerusalem is the City of God and home to Jews, Christians and Muslims. A prayer in the Tomb of Jesus marks the climax of the pilgrimage.

Houses of worship are abodes of God. Icons of saints are highly venerated because of their closeness to God.

A story is told about the famous French poet, playwright and diplomat Paul Claudel (1868-1955) who, having entered the Basilica of Notre Dame in Paris on Christmas Day in 1886 on research against Christianity, gained faith after listening to the song of Mary, known as the “Magnificat”.

His heart was touched and his soul elevated.

Religious images, thus, help us to approach God’s beauty; stir us into a sense of wonder and deep emotions of holy joy.

It is through such works of art that finite humans express their thirst and search for the infinite. Holy Scriptures too are images of God’s speech.

A Deceived Catholic Worships the Image of the Pope

They have inspired humanity to form cultures, religious symbols, signs, poems, songs and icons! They were initially written in ancient languages whose alphabets were iconic; endowed with capacity to communicate the beauty, truth and power of God.

Early in its history, Israel was forbidden to make any depictions of God because God had not revealed himself in a visible form.

Yet, given the pagan culture surrounding them, the Israelites might have been tempted to worship God in form of some natural object.

But later, God did reveal himself under visible forms. God forbids idolatry because it is a perversion of man’s innate religious sense.

An idolater transfers his indestructible notion of God to anything other than God. Otherwise, works of art that are born of faith do enhance faith.

We need them in today’s climate of secularism.

Catholics do not worship statues—Lwanga

Publish Date: Apr 16, 2012

By Juliet Lukwago

The Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has clarified that Catholics do not worship statues, but instead use them to reflect on their saintly life and behaviour.

He said Catholics use the holy images, paintings and other artistic devices to recall persons or things depicted.

“Just as it helps one to remember one’s mother or father by looking at her or his photograph; images also help Christians to recall saints by looking at their pictures or statues,” Lwanga said on Sunday.

The church leader was showing hundreds of followers parts of the remains of Sr. Faustina Krakow of Poland, the witness of the Devine Mercy which were brought from Poland by Rev Fr. Achiles Mayanja.

Fr. Mayanja, the administrator of Lubaga Cathedral, had just returned from a pilgrimage in Poland, the the home country of the late Sr. Faustina.

Lwanga declared Rubaga Cathedral Parish the home of the Divine Mercy in Kampala Archdiocese and urged believers to make an effort there and reflect on and venerate Jesus Christ.

The prelate was at Lubaga Cathedral during a holy mass to celebrate the day of Divine Mercy (Jesus Christ) on which he conveyed God’s great message through Sr. Faustina Kraków of Poland to the world.

The message was a revelation of the pattern of Christian perfection based on trust in God.

Faustina, who is now a saint, was born on August 25, 1905 in Gogowiec in Poland in a religious peasants’ poor family and she died at a tender age on December 5, 1938. She was the third of ten children.

Throughout her life, she reported a number of visions of Jesus Christ and conversations with Him, which she wrote about in her diary and was later published as a book diary titled Divine Mercy in My Soul.

Lwanga said the use of images of Christ and the saints in the Catholic faith is misunderstood by many. “It does not only show their lack of knowledge about the use of these items, but also ignorance of what the Bible says.”

"The people who accuse Catholics of adoring images should consult those who are knowledgeable in their respective religions before making such criticisms and other comments about the Catholic Church and other peoples’ religions,” he said.

He gave an example of a Ugandan woman singer who sarcastically sang a song titled Nsonyiwa Father , which according to Lwanga, belittles and despises the Catholic religion as far as the Sacrament of Penance, is concerned.

“Why do some people find pleasure and pride in despising other peoples’ religions?” Lwanga sounded firm.

The prelate stressed that images and pictures help Catholics to reflect on Jesus Christ Himself and his saints just as one would look at a picture of his or her beloved one or parent and vividly remember as if that person was still living

Deceived Catholics Worship the Image of Mary

His justification was clear: “God has never banned the religious use of statues.”

The function was attended by hundreds of Christians from 54 parishes that form the Kampala Archdiocese.

French Study Finds Tumors and Organ Damage in Rats Fed Monsanto Corn

By Mike Ludwig, Truthout | Report

Wednesday, 19 September 2012 13:36

Rats fed a lifetime diet of Monsanto's genetically engineered corn or exposed to the company's popular Roundup herbicide developed tumors and suffered severe organ damage, according to a French study released on Wednesday.

The study could have a big impact on the battle over a California ballot proposal that would require groceries containing genetically engineered ingredients to be labeled as such. Monsanto has already donated $7.1 million to the campaign to defeat the proposal, known as Proposition 37.

The study links varying levels of both the Roundup herbicide and the transgenes in Monsanto's patented NK603 corn to mammary tumors and severe liver and kidney damage.

The rats were either fed the NK603 corn alone, corn treated with agricultural levels of Roundup, or given water treated with Roundup at low levels commonly found in contaminated drinking water and used in agriculture in the United States. In each group, there were two to three more deaths compared to control groups, and the rats on the Monsanto diet died more quickly.

Gilles-Eric Séralini, a professor of molecular biology at the University of Caen who lead the research team, told reporters on Wednesday that the rats' diet reflected the kind of exposure that humans who eat genetically engineered food should expect.

"This is around the level [that] the American population may eat, where, unfortunately GMOs are not labeled," Séralini said. "In Europe, we have this labeling, and it helps us to avoid these compounds if necessary and promote personal choices."

The research team concluded that NK603's transgenic traits and the endocrine-disrupting effects of Roundup herbicide could explain the results. The study is the first of its kind to link enzymes overexpressed by transgenes to health problems, Séralini said.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals cause health problems and cancers by impacting hormonal glands in mammals and are especially dangerous to children. Pesticide and herbicide critics often fear that chemicals used to kill weeds and pests could potentially be endocrine disruptors in humans.

Monsanto's NK603 and other varieties of corn are genetically engineered to tolerate Roundup herbicide, which contains the plant poison glyphosate and other additives, so that farmers can spray whole fields of crops to kill weeds while sparing the genetically modified corn. Genetically engineered crops are also known as genetically modified organisms, or GMO's.

Good News for Proposition 37
"The results of this study are worrying," said Gary Ruskin, who manages a campaign to pass the food-labeling initiative in California. "They underscore the importance of giving California families the right to know whether our food is genetically engineered, and to decide for ourselves whether we want to gamble with our health by eating GMO foods that have not been adequately studied and have not been proven safe."

Ruskin's Yes on Proposition 37 campaign, which is supported by organic food companies and alternative health groups, has been vastly outspent by a campaign to defeat the ballot initiative funded by millions of dollars in donations from biotech chemical companies and food manufacturers such as Monsanto, DuPont, Bayer and Nestle.

Polls taken this summer, however, show that Proposition 37 remains popular among a majority of voters despite a multimillion-dollar campaign against the initiative.

GMO Information War
A spokesperson for Monsanto told Truthout that the company will thoroughly review the data, but pointed out that scientific claims made by Séralini in regards to previous studies on rats have been refuted by a European food regulatory agency.

In the past, Séralini, an independent scientist celebrated by biotech critics, has publicly wrangled with peer scientists, pro-industry groups and regulators over interpretations of data from 90-day studies on rats conducted by biotech companies that were used to justify regulatory approvals of Monsanto crops in several countries.

Séralini and his team believe the study released this week is more conclusive because it spans two years and followed the rats' entire lifecycle.

"It's bizarre and dramatic for us that the US government," said Séralini, "has not requested to make serious tests before releasing these products into the environment because these GMOs are pesticide sponges, and we know that pesticides can be harmful to humans."

Séralini also pointed out that his team started to see tumors after four months, while the industry studies on rats were limited to a three-month period.

"It shows the genetically modified foods should be withdrawn," said biotech critic and author Jeffrey Smith. Smith said the study further confirms reports he has heard from doctors and veterinarians who say they've seen their patient's health improve after they stopped eating genetically engineered foods.

In 2010, a lead embryologist in Argentina named Dr. Andrés Carrasco survived an attacked by an angry mob  determined to keep him from speaking at a public event about his own research on Roundup, which found that the herbicide caused deformations in chicken embryos that resembled birth defects in humans being reported in the country's agricultural areas where the herbicide is heavily used.

50 percent of male and 70 percent of female rats fed on a diet containing NK603 – a genetically modified corn produced by Monsanto – or those exposed to Monsanto’s Roundup weedkiller – suffered tumors and multiple organ damage, causing them to die prematurely, the study found.

The study was conducted by French scientists at the University of Caen and published in the journal Food and Chemical Toxicology.

Almost immediately after the findings were made public at a press conference in London, numerous other scientists rushed to Monsanto’s defense and claimed that the study was inaccurate.

“This strain of rat is very prone to mammary tumors particularly when food intake is not restricted,” said Tom Sanders, head of the nutritional sciences research division at King’s College London. “The statistical methods are unconventional … and it would appear the authors have gone on a statistical fishing trip.”

However, the statistical methods are perfectly straightforward. Only 30 percent of males and 20 percent of females in the control group of rats that were not exposed to Monsanto’s products died prematurely – meaning males were 30 per cent more likely to die prematurely after eating Monsanto corn and females a whopping 50 per cent more likely to die.

Sanders’ point about that particular breed of rat being prone to tumors treats the study as if it was conducted without using a control group of rats as a comparison, which is completely untrue.

David Spiegelhalter of the University of Cambridge also tried to cast doubt on the accuracy of the study by highlighting that “The study’s untreated control arm comprised only 10 rats of each sex, most of which also got tumors.”

That statement again completely ignores the fact that the rats, whether they developed tumors or not, were statistically far more likely to die prematurely if they were exposed to Monsanto products. The figures don’t lie.

Monsanto continually points to studies they claim confirm the safety of GMO food, and did so again in the aftermath of the latest French study. However, all of those studies did not go beyond the 90 day reporting period unlike the Caen study which tracked the health of the rats throughout their life span. It was only after four months that the tumors and organ damage suffered by the rats became evident.

Monsanto is already very much on the ropes in Europe and faces being kicked out of the European marketplace altogether if its reputation continues to be denigrated – that’s presumably why a gaggle of “experts” have been trotted out by the establishment Universities – a lot of which routinely receive huge grants from Monsanto itself – in order to desperately try and debunk the study.

Meanwhile over in the United States, Monsanto and other GMO corporations have spent a combined sum of over $19 million dollars in an attempt to shoot down Proposition 37, the California bill that merely seeks to require genetically-modified foods and food ingredients to be labeled at the retail level.

If Monsanto and other GMO producers like DuPont, Bayer, Dow, BASF, and Syngenta are so confident that their genetically-engineered products are safe – why have they spent so much money attempting to prevent the public from knowing that they are in the food supply?

As Mike Adams points out, no matter how many apologists the establishment wheels out to cover-up for the fact that GMO represents an unparalleled environmental threat to humankind – the cat is already out of the bag.
“The era of GMO deception is history. A food revolution is upon us. And if governments will not halt the mass poisoning of our world by evil corporations, I have no doubt that the People will, by themselves, eventually invoke other necessary methods of halting this great evil,” he writes.

A pastor in Mukono district charged with defiling a 17-year-old school girl has been remanded to Luzira Prison.

Sebastian Mbuya of Delivering Power Centre International in Kitega village, Mukono municipality appeared before Mukono chief magistrate Mary Ikiti on Tuesday.

He was arrested by the Police on September 10, 2012 from Bamboo Guest House in Mukono town where he was allegedly having sex with the girl.

However, Mbuya who refers to himself as a prophet pleaded not guilty. He applied for bail but his surety Jimmy Mugambe, a resident of Kikooza village in Mukono central division failed to present substantive documents to court.

Mugambe presented an identity card which was issued in 2009 and showing him as a resident of Wantoni village in Mukono municipality.

The prosecutor Hussein Ntalo Nasuulu asked court to remand Mbuya as the investigations in the case continue.

Ikiti remanded Mbuya to Luzira prison until October 1, when he will re-appear in court for mention of the case.

In his statement at Mukono Police station, Mbuya said he had gone to visit the lodge following rumors that it was on sale and had interest in buying it.

He said that when he reached there, he waited for the owners but he could not see any and he decided to rest as he was by that time very tired.

Police detectives arrested Mbuya with a student at around mid-night in the lodge. The girl who had first said that she was 18 years, was taken to a Police surgeon in Kampala who proved that she was 17 years old.

The girl later changed her statement to say she was ordered to tell Police that she was 18 years yet in actual fact she was 17 years. She said Mbuya had threatened her with death if she resisted his sexual advances to her.

Mukono traditional healers have attacked the Red Pepper and Kamunye publications for publishing nude picture stories of the head of Herbalists and Traditional Healers Association Sylvia Namutebi, a.k.a ”Maama Fiina”.

Speaking to the press at his shrine at Njerere village in Goma division, the head of the Traditional and Cultural Religious sect Jjajja Kabona Jjumba Lubowa Aligaweesa said that  the publications have tarnished her name ,ridiculed her and their job.

Lubowa said that  the publications’ stories in Thursday and Friday issues  were designed to embarrass Maama Fiina, but that they have ended up ridiculing even the nation’s mothers and  the traditional belief, which they have  said is the oldest religious setting in the country.

Lubowa  said that the newspapers proprietors have exhibited irresponsibility for using pictures which he swears were computer designed for purposes of tarnishing Maama Fiina and the profession.

He has  implored all traditional healers in the country to light night-long vigil fires in protest against the act, with an appeal to them to push for a non-recurrence of the same in future.

Without mentioning names, Mr. Aligaweesa has said certain sections of Ugandans are bent on destroying traditional healers’ practices, adding however that this is the very reason why practitioners should persist and defy all these attempts.

He has however noted that  the attack on their leader has given them new vigor to show their enemies that they are not about to end their struggle to keep ahead of them, although they are not advocating for violence against anyone .
