The Minister for East African Affairs Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has tasked Rubaga Miracle Centre lead Pastor, Robert Kayanja to apologize to Ugandans for allegedly tarnishing the image of the 10th Parliament which she presided over.

According to Kadaga, Pastor Kayanja is wrongfully accusing the 10th parliament of failing to pass the budget for the construction of Uganda’s oil refinery.

Pastor Kayanja made the comments while preaching to his congregation on Easter Sunday noting that the 10th parliament had “let us down as a country.”

“There was a chance to work hard to appropriate money to construct the country’s oil refinery, but parliament did not,” Kayanja was quoted.

The former speaker, however, noted that Parliament was never presented with any budget regarding the refinery.

“Pastor Kayanja , you owe an apology to the people of Uganda and the 10th Parliament whose legacy you are distorting. No Budget for a refinery was presented or rejected, please substantiate, which meeting, which sitting, and which session this happened,” Kadaga responded.

The national oil refinery was initially part of Uganda’s oil production plan, having been conceived back in 2008.

The project was however dropped as the government prioritized the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP); a 1,443km, heated and buried crude oil pipeline that will run from Kabaale, Hoima in Uganda to Chongoleani, Tanga in Tanzania.

However, Minister of Energy Ruth Nankabirwa recently announced that the refinery project will be completed by the year 2027.

Currently, the government has completed the acquisition of the land for the project plus compensating the affected communities.

The Government also picked the Albertine Graben Refinery Consortium (AGRC) as the lead investor for the 60,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) refinery in Kabaale, in the Hoima district.

The Uganda Refinery project, which includes the development of a 211-kilometer petroleum products pipeline from Hoima to North West of Kampala, is estimated at US$ 3 – 4 billion.

The Former Speaker of the 10th parliament who is now the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Ms Rebecca Kadaga has tasked Miracle Center Cathedral lead pastor, Robert Kayanja to apologize to Ugandans for allegedly “distorting” the legacy of the 10th Parliament which she chaired.

“Pastor Kayanja, you owe an apology to the people of Uganda and the 10th Parliament whose legacy you are distorting,” Ms Kadaga who was the then Speaker tweeted.

This was after Pastor Kayanja was quoted faulting Parliament for the increasing commodity prices, saying they had all the powers and responsibility to curb it.

“The 10th Parliament let us down as a country. There was a chance for them to work hard and appropriate money to construct the country’s oil refinery, but they did not,” Pastor Kayanja is quoted as saying while preaching during an Easter celebrations service at Miracle Centre Cathedral Rubaga, Kampala yesterday.

According to him, if the 10th Parliament had appropriated money to put up an oil refinery, the country would today be exporting oil instead of citizens buying fuel dearly.

However according to the Kamuli Woman MP, no budget for a refinery was presented or rejected by the Parliament she chaired by then.

“No Budget for a refinery was presented or rejected. Please substantiate; which meeting, which sitting and which session this happened,” Ms Kadaga stated.

The development comes amidst public outcry over the skyrocketing commodity prices as citizens, religious leaders and parliamentarians continue to ask the government to curb the skyrocketing prices in Uganda.

 

Minister of State for Trade Harriet Ntabazi said  that the the only idea that will bring down the prices of commodities that require crude palm oil as inputs, including laundry soap, cooking oil and sugar is a planned expansion of the production of crude palm oil in Buvuma, Kalangala, Bundibugyo, greater Masaka and other areas.

Government ruled out any form of subsidies to cushion citizens from the skyrocketing fuel and commodity prices.

According to Ramathan Ggoobi, secretary in Uganda’s Finance ministry, issuance of subsidies “is bad economics and could get us into more trouble because it takes money to the wrong people”

Early this month, Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga of Christian life church in Bwaise held what he dubbed the first-ever Bunyoro region crusade.

It was held in Kagadi town council at Wisdom Primary School and thereafter he held a press conference where he revealed that one million people attended the crusade.

However, the question is how did the Man of God get to this figure?

Did he have a mechanism with which he counted the people that attended the crusade?

It might be a possibility if they were paying customers and he counted the entrance tickets.

Or should we assume that he got the numbers from the Uganda police in Kagadi which is highly doubtful?

According to the census of 2014 Kagadi had a population of 351, 032 projected to reach 436,200 by 2020. Its neighboring districts like Kakumiro had 293,108 with a projection of 473,400, Hoima had 305,531 with a projection of 374,500 by 2020, and Kikube 267,455 with a projection of 355,700.

Kibaale had 140,991 with a projection of 198,200, Kyenjojo, 422,204 with a projection of 525,400, and Masindi 291,113 with a projection of 340, 500.

Going by these projections the seven districts had an average population of 350,000 and this meant that each district would have to have sent an average of 150,000 people which is practically impossible.

Even the ruling party the NRM with all its resources has never been able to ferry 1 million people to a political rally in Kagadi.

Let’s assume it’s correct that there were one million people in attendance the question would then be; How were they transported?

Kagadi today must have a population of about 450,000 people and assuming all attended the crusade then the other 550,000 must have come from surrounding districts and hence needed to be transported.

Whether they paid for themselves it means they needed 5,500 buses each carrying 100 people.

Let’s ignore that they would be overloaded but how many buses are in Uganda.

It gets complex if they used taxis. If each taxi was overloaded and carried 25 passengers then they would need 22,000 taxis to ferry the 550,000 people.

Then there is the question of the venue. According to a Kagadi district official who preferred anonymity Kagadi town council and Wisdom primary school where the crusade took place cant hold 300,000 people let alone one million.

He actually said that there is no venue in Kagadi that can hold such a big number of people.

Therefore either Pastor Ssenyonga is lying in broad daylight or is hallucinating and thus it remains a million-dollar lie.

Famous Nigerian gospel musician Osinachi Nwachukwu’s passing on Friday, which shocked many, has sparked controversies with new claims made about her marriage.

The singer, who shot into the limelight with the hit “Ekwueme“, which has been watched 72 million times on YouTube, died in an Abuja hospital.

She was a lead singer at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre. She was featured in several popular gospel songs like “Nara Ekele” by Pastor Paul Enenche (Dunamis, Abuja) and “You no dey use me play” by Emma.

Her family and husband, Peter Nwachukwu, who doubled as her manager, are yet to issue a statement.

However, close friends and associates have suggested that her violent union led to her untimely death.

On Saturday, her colleague, Frank Edwards, alleged that the late singer had an abusive husband, who regularly brutalised her before she died.

Mr Edwards made the remarks in an Instagram live video.

 

Allegations

Frank Edwards said on several occasions, the late singer’s husband was in the habit of publicly insulting his wife, and he abused her on several occasions.

Recounting an encounter with the singer, he said, “One time in a studio, this man slapped her in the studio just because she wanted to record the song in Igbo against his will. She does not do anything on her own.”

“She would say, please beg my husband. She was at his mercy. I didn’t know the intensity of what she was going through; I didn’t know how somebody would be jealous of their wife or claim to love.

 

“There are a lot of stories where people told her this and that, but what I know was that the control was too much. The other time somebody wanted me to get her for an event, and I contacted her, but she said ‘beg my husband.”

The singer also alleged that the late singer’s husband was controlling and would take the money she made from events. He, however, said the singer was secretive about what she was going through in her marriage.

“She couldn’t even tell people what she was going through. I only got to know because Aunty Joy contacted me to promote her song. That was when I got a glimpse into what was happening,” he said.

“It’s crazy,” he lamented.

“People have tried to invite her for their programmes, but she will keep telling them that they must beg my husband first,” he said.

Further narrating his experiences about the late singer’s marital hurdle with her husband, he said a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Joy Nunieh, once gifted the singer a studio in Abuja. Still, her husband never allowed her to use the studio simply because it was built without his permission.

Mr Nwachukwu could not be reached for comments Saturday. A message sent by PREMIUM TIMES to the Dunamis Church was not responded to also.

Demand for Justice

Crying out for Justice, Edward said he would go all out on social media for the first time in his career until justice was served.

“I have never had any reason to have a court case with anyone because I am a child of God, but you see this case, it won’t just go like that because she was a blessing to the world.

“I usually don’t get involved in things like this, I keep my family and personal stuff off social media, but this one hurt me,” he said.

He also said Mrs Nunieh, a lawyer, has promised to take up legal action against Mr Nwanchukwu.

The gospel singer also advised women in abusive marriages to take a long walk.

He said: “My advice is even if you are not a wife, if you are being physically abused, go back to your parent’s house.”

“I am not a married man, but I cannot advise anyone to stay where they have been physically abused. You might not get a divorce immediately. Just leave to save your life.”

The husband of late Nigerian gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu has been arrested days after her death in hospital in Abuja.

Peter Nwachukwu, a lead singer at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja, rose to fame in 2017 with ‘Ekwueme,’ a song she did with Prospa Ochimana.

Peter Nwachukwu was arrested after her family formally filed a complaint of “culpable homicide against one Mr Peter Nwachukwu who is a husband to the deceased

“He is now in our custody. The younger brother of the deceased reported the matter and we have commenced investigation,” Abuja police command spokeswoman Josephine Adeh said.

The deceased singer’s elder sister, Ms. Favour Made, alleged in an interview with Vanguard that  Osinachi was kicked in the chest by her husband Nwachukwu.

Ms Made said in the interview that her family had tried unsuccessfully to make her walk away from the marriage because of domestic violence.

“When the man kicked her on the chest, she fell down and he took her to the hospital but he did not even tell us,” Ms Made told Vanguard. “It was her friend who lives in Ebonyi state that called her twin sister, because Osinachi has a twin sister, to ask, ‘did your sister tell you that Peter hit her on the chest? the sister then told her no.

“It was the hitting on the chest that killed her. My brother had to ask doctor what killed her and doctor said that there were clusters of blood on her chest.”

A few gospel singers who worked with Osinachi Nwachukwu also accused her husband of domestic violence.

The husband of late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu has denied having a hand in her death.

According to the popular singer’s family, Peter Nwachukwu assaulted her during their marriage.

But in a Vanguard Nigeria report, the pastor, Mr. Nwachukwu denied the allegations of domestic violence and battery levelled against him during police investigations.

Mr Nwachukwu told the police that his wife had been unwell since November 2021. 

He claimed they had been moving from one hospital to another since she fell ill, only to pass away at the national hospital over the weekend.

Despite his claims, Mr Nwachukwu was unable to provide evidence to the police to confirm his statement.

 

Osinachi Nwachukwu, the wife of Pastor Peter Nwachukwu, passed away on Friday, April 8, at a hospital in Abuja.

Following her death, there were reports that she had died of cancer, however, her family quickly went on record to dismiss the claims.

In an interview with Vanguard Nigeria at the time, the elder sister of the late singer said, Osinachi died as a result of a cluster of blood in her chest after she was kicked in that region by her husband, Mr. Peter Nwachukwu.

“The husband, Mr. Peter Nwachukwu hit her with his leg on the chest…she fell down and he took her to the hospital but he did not even tell us. It was her friend who lives in Ebonyi state that called her twin sister.”

Following that interview, Police in Abuja revealed that Osinachi’s husband Peter Nwachukwu has been arrested.

In an interview with Daily Post, they stated that the arrest was made after a family member lodged a complaint.

Meanwhile, Pastor Nwachukwu was reportedly taken to his home in handcuffs in a Police van in the Lugbe district on Tuesday.

 

This was to search for documents or evidence that will help with the investigations.

However, following preliminary investigations, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence.

With his formal conferment with the Exemplification honour of the knights of St. John , Former Minister of Transportation and current ministerial nominee, Rotimi Amaechi, has been promoted to the highest rank in the Catholic Church, under the order of the Knights of St. John.

The Church bestowed the new  honour on the ministerial nominee ,from his erstwhile position as  the  Grand Master, Nigerian Temple Noble and Exalted Knights of the Holy Cross Knight of St. John International.

 

His media aide, Mr. Israel Ibeleme, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja said  the ministerial nominee  was conferred with the honour for his service to the Order and humanity for over 20 years at the Pope John Paul II Catholic Centre in Abuja.

He quoted Monsignor Kenneth Enang, in charge of the Pope John II Catholic Centre, as saying that the promotion was premised on Amaechi’s support toward the growth of the Catholic Church.

Strong winds have blown off the tent which was erected over former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah’s casket.

The wreaths and chairs in the tent also flew in different directions.

The incident happened at around 1:00pm after cultural leader Jimmy Ocan had spoken during Oulanyah’s funeral service in Ajuri village, Lalogi sub-county, Omoro district on April 8.

Confusion, running around and wailing followed.

However, calm was soon restored after staff of A-Plus funeral management and mourners reinstated the tent.

Fallen speaker of parliament Jacob Oulanyah's father, Nathan L'Okori insists his son was poisoned.

Although earlier this week, Health minister Jane Ruth Aceng informed parliament that the postmortem report indicates that Oulanyah died of cancer and multiple organ failure, his father, who, sounded the poison bells soon after his death on March 20 in Seattle in the US, with a calm but serious tone, today Friday reiterated the same accusations - this time before all cameras and several government officials amidst cheers from the locals. 

"I want to state clearly, Jacob was poisoned, he told me…doctors attempted to deal with the poison...By the time he was flown out for treatment he was not in a position to recover,” he said.

President Museveni who announced Oulanyah's death last month, earlier warned those speculating about Oulanyah’s cause of death, directing police to arrest all those he called spreaders of harmful propaganda but it appears like Oulanyah’s family is convinced that he was poisoned. Oulanyah's cousin brother Francis Emuna also speaking at the burial in Omoro insinuated that Oulanyah was being fought from within the state. 

It is not immediately clear who would have been interested in ending Oulanyah’s life who only assumed office last May and served as speaker for just 9 months. However, the poison accusations are not new as we reported back in August last year when Oulanyah was abruptly evacuated to the UK on June 22, 2021.

Museveni ordered a specialized security team to investigate the sudden slump in Oulanyah’s health a few days after assuming office.

Sources at State House intimated to The Observer then that the president was concerned that Oulanyah could have been poisoned after medical reports from the UK, turned out inconclusive. But Museveni this week, insisted Oulanyah died from cancer, saying he was aware of his health condition and treatment in Dubai, Germany, and finally the US and he would have advised him to quit politics so as to preserve his health.

Modern evangelicalism should listen to both the Word and the world. The first is an ecclesial call, while the latter is a cultural one. Listening to the Word means developing internal tools for discernment necessary to “equip the saints for the work of ministry” (Eph. 4:12). Listening to the world implies becoming salt and light (Mt. 5:13) in an often-collapsing culture. This research caters to the central Christian discipleship duty to heed apostolic doctrine (1 Tim. 4:16). But it also inadvertently serves a missional cause in a country like Uganda, where many people hold onto a nominal Christian Faith severed from its historical Christian creeds and teaching. Such nominalism has often hindered the effectiveness of the Great Commission (Mt. 28:16–20) and the Great Commandment (Mt. 22:34–39). This research sought to address two questions: what is Phaneroo, and what does it teach? We geared the first effort to determine the movement’s origins and the second to assessing and discerning their teaching considering historic Christian doctrine.

PHANEROO’S MAKINGS AT MAKERERE UNIVERSITY

 

On September 16th, 2014 the Uganda Registration Services Bureau incorporated Phaneroo Ministries International Limited as a private company limited by shares. Its leadership involves Grace Lubega, who serves with Zac Mutyaba, Modestar Sweeney, Brian Mwesige, and Emma Muwanguzi (among others). The movement’s origin is traceable to Isaiah Mbuga, pastor at Christ Heart International Ministries (CHM) in Mukono. Mbuga had intended to revive Afro-Stone Fellowship in Africa Ladies Hall of residence at Makerere University (MUK). Grace Lubega, then a member of CHM, often escorted Mbuga to minister in their newfound ministry ground. Then Afro-Stone Fellowship numbers grew. According to a witness, around 2011–2012, students from other universities flocked MUK at their friends’ invitation to “witness” the power of God. Under Mbuga’s guidance, CHM replicated its ministry across university campuses, even outside Kampala. Thanks to their rapid student mobilization it was a swift growth. But as numbers increased, so did Lubega’s influence. At MUK, Lubega’s devotionals edited and summarized as “Shofar of Grace” were dutifully distributed wherever a student was spotted. These devotionals remain Phaneroo’s lifeblood.

 

PHANEROO’S ETHIC WITH CHAPLAINCIES AND CHURCHES

 

Phaneroo adherents came to be renowned for “fervent prayer sessions, intense worship, and greater depth in the word of God.” Africa Hall could no longer contain the group, and the nearby Livingstone Boys’ Hall eventually received them. But complaints about the noise their meetings generated moved them only a little further behind the Complex building at MUK. Such noise disruptive of learning spaces was characteristic of Phaneroo’s presence at

the various university campuses. Their Wednesday fellowships at Kyambogo University’s Student Center happened without the university’s approval and used loud public address systems. Lecturers complained of disrupted evening lectures, and since Phaneroo’s fellowships continued till very late in the night, they became a security issue.

 

Next, those interviewed noted a defiant spirit as characteristic of the Phaneroo faithful. Phaneroo fellowship leaders were antagonistic to every university chaplaincy tasked with spiritual oversight over students. At MUBS, for example, followers claimed that they would only submit to Grace Lubega, and the chaplaincy is under them. Indeed, at every campus Phaneroo grew by infiltrating existing Christian Unions (CUs), taking over leadership, or pretending to be the CU.

 

Meanwhile, rumors of growing sexual immorality in various fellowships gained ground. At UCU and Kyambogo, male fellowship leaders (papas) invited their female co-leaders (mamas) to sleep at their residences. The same reports surface at MUBS and Kampala International University in Ishaka. One chaplain tells us that when confronted about their immoral lifestyle, the papas and mamas told him they were “mentoring” and “caring” for one another. CHM’s 2015 letter also cited “questionable doctrine, conduct, and morals” among the reasons for the rift between them and Phaneroo. Added reports of academic decline at UCU, MUBS, and Kyambogo persisted as Fellowship leaders assured Phaneroo adherents that their faith—not qualifications—is what God needs to give them jobs.

 

PHANEROO’S “SUBMISSION” DOCTRINE

 

Grace Lubega summons cultic loyalty and obedience from all Phaneroo members as his “spiritual children.” Failure to submit to him could lead to death, as he states in his Submission to Ordinances sermon at MUK. Many who submit to him fear to mention his name without title lest the blessing passes by them. Among those who have left, there is deep dread that he hears them “in the Spirit” when they speak about him or if they don’t address him by his title. Even after they separate from Phaneroo he continues to haunt them. Witnesses say Lubega summons submission in dreams, through which he even teaches ladies how to cook. Moreover, Lubega “imparts his spirit” to those he chooses through an initiation of sorts. Such initiations are often through watches Lubega gives to his leaders. Some who experienced this “initiation” report feeling strange power flowing through their bodies upon placing the watch on their arm. Over these, Lubega has such complete influence that even after leaving, they live in fear that the “apostle” may “steal their spirit”—an insider code- word for being killed. Ex-Phaneroo members who die become examples of what happens should you leave the movement or “the will of God.” Phaneroo holds itself to be the center of God’s will on earth.
