My analysis
They are many success gurus in
the world today like Myles Monroe. These men and women are excellent speakers
with incredible oratory skills. They are telling people to think big, dream
big, believe in your self, trust in your self, forgive your self . This is
called Humanism or new age religion, or New age spirituality . They demote God
from his sovereignty and deify man. According to Myles Monroe’s new age
humanism, God needs the permission from man to operate legally on earth. Can
you imagine!!! This new age humanism is a hiss of the serpent. So, the serpent
behind the lie of new age- humanism is telling us to believe in our self
instead of believing in God.
This humanism has stealthily
crept into the ‘born again’ churches especially the Pentecostal churches.
Pentecostal pastors like Dr.Shulller, Rick Warren, Benny Hinn, Kenneth
Copeland, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, Andrew Wommack, Late Kenneth Hagin etc
are teaching new age-humanism, which they have given a Christian mask. Dr.
Shulller is famous for his so called self esteem new age-humanism theology. The
likes of Benny Hinn, Copeland, Frederick Price, have stealthily taught that we
should have faith in our faith, instead of having faith in God. The word of God
categorically cautions us to put our trust in God in everything we do and never
to lean on our own understanding.(Proverbs. 3:5). Scripture categorically
states that cursed is he who trusts in man(Jeremiah 17:5).
The God of pastors like Myles
Monroe is mammon and not the Lord Jesus Christ. Myles Monroe is a minister of
satan . He preaches the gospel for
filthy lucre’s sake . If Dr. Myles
Monroe has a word from God for the Uganda church why speak it out from
an expensive hotel which the poor Ugandan can not access. Why charge 50, 000
Ug. Shillings(20$) in a country where a
number people live on less than 2 dollars a day.

"God and His angels need
our permission to work on earth". Oh really? What does the Word of God
have to say about this rank dominionist stupidity?
“And all the people of the
earth are counted as nothing; and He does according to His will in the army of
heaven, and among the people of the earth. And none can strike His hand, or say
to Him, What are You doing?” Daniel 4:35
For I am Yahweh your God, the Holy
One of Israel, your Savior; I gave Egypt

and Seba for you”. Isaiah 43:3
“But our God is in Heaven; He has
done whatever He has pleased”. Psalm 115:3
Every thing Yahweh pleased, He
did in the heavens and in earth, and in the seas and all deep places. He causes
the vapours to rise from the end of the earth; He makes lightnings for the rain;
He brings wind out of His storehouses. He who struck the first-born of Egypt, both
of man and animal; who sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, on
Pharaoh and on all his servants; who struck great nations and killed mighty
kings, Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms
of Canaan, and gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to Israel His
people. Your name, O Yahweh, endures forever, and Your memorial, O Yahweh, throughout
all generations”. Psalm 135: 6-13
Prosperity Gospel Gone Wild: Joel Osteen’s Witchraft – Myles Munroe charging over $100 To Watch Church Services
http://beginningandend.com/prosperity-gospel-wild-joel-osteen-myles-munroe-charging-100-services/
Pastor Munroe recently charged $199 just to watch a pay-per-view
showing of his church conference on the internet! Myles Munroe is a very
sophisticated Prosperity Gospel Preacher. Rather than just stirring up
the congregation to “sew a seed” of money and await their blessing, he
has built an entire false doctrine centered on the Kingdom of God.
Munroe’s doctrine (as will be seen in the video below) is the following:
1. God created the Earth for humanity to rule it.
2. Through sin in the Garden of Eden, the ‘ownership of the Kingdom’ on Earth was forfeited.
3. By seeking God and putting faith in God and Biblical living, we can re-enter the Kingdom and reclaim our Royal position.
4. Once we have re-entered the Kingdom, all material blessings are
available to us because we now have full dominion over the Earth and
everything in it. So whatever we want or need in life, we can will it to
happen or be received.
As will be seen in the video below, not only is Munroe preaching
unbiblical heresy, he is also preaching from an Antichrist spirit. From
the onset, he denies Jesus Christ any glory by saying Jesus was merely a
messenger to let us know about the Kingdom of God and the power we have
to reclaim the Earth and all of its goods.
Munroe says: “the main reason for Jesus to come to the Earth was not to go to the cross.” The Bible taught otherwise:
And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is
come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 24 Verily, verily, I say
unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it
abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. 25 He that
loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world
shall keep it unto life eternal. 26 If any man serve me, let him follow
me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve
me, him will my Father honour. 27 Now is my soul troubled; and what
shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I
unto this hour. 28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice
from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it
again. 29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that
it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. 30 Jesus answered and
said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. 31 Now is
the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast
out. 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto
me. 33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
Hebrews 9:26: “He then would have had to suffer often since the
foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has
appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.”
Mark 8:31: “And He began to teach them that the Son of Man
must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests
and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again”
Munroe then says: “Jesus came not because of the cross primarily but
to share the message that we can “re-enter the Kingdom” (speaking of
Earthly Kingdom, royalty and wealth).”
The Bible says the ultimate purpose of God’s love and plan for us is that: “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. – John 3:17.
Jesus came into this world to provide eternal life, not to usher in a
Kingdom on Earth for Christians to have “dominion” over today. Jesus
died because that was the only way to satisfy the wrath of God against
the sins of every human being who has ever lived. Jesus took on the
punishment we were supposed to so that we could have a chance to live in
Heaven and not go to Hell.
Munroe on the Kingdom
Munroe: “Jesus said ‘It is my Father’s good pleasure to give you
the kingdom’…Jesus sent out His disciples two by two to preach the
‘Kingdom of Heaven has come unto you.’”
Like many false teachers, Munroe has to use Scriptures out of context. Here is the context of the first verse he quotes: “Fear
not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you
the kingdom. Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags
which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no
thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth. For where your treasure is,
there will your heart be also.” (Luke 12:32-34)
The clear point of Jesus’ words here is that the “Kingdom” is
spiritual and Heavenly, not one on Earth. The passages states that we
should value “treasure in heavens that faileth not” which cannot be
corrupted. The focus of Christ’s message, in context, was on eternal
life, not the short, present life. And our hearts follow what we
treasure. Munroe completely takes this verse out of context to make it
say the exact opposite of what Jesus meant.
Regarding Jesus sending out disciples to ‘preach the Kingdom’, Munroe says:
“After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent
them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he
himself would come. And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto
them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.” (Luke 10)
So going by Bible Scripture, what does the phrase: “Kingdom of God” mean? It is salvation in Jesus Christ.
The belief in Jesus Christ as your Savior, who died for your sins, and
was raised three days later in glory, conquering death and the grave is
the “Kingdom of God.” For this time being, for those who are on Earth
and believe, Jesus reigns in our hearts and fills us with the Holy
Spirit. We know this from Jesus’ own words: “And when he was
demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he
answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” (Luke 17:20-21)
Jesus’ point was that the Kingdom of God at present, arrives when
someone puts their faith in Him. And that belief happens in the heart,
hence it coming without “observation.” You cannot see the moment someone
becomes a believer. It is a decision in the heart. Jesus further
confirms this by saying the kingdom of God is “within you.” The world
today in this fallen, sinful age is not Jesus’ Kingdom. He made this
clear as well: “Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world:
if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I
should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from
hence.” (John 18:36)
Jesus set up a Kingdom in the hearts of believers in His first coming.
At His Second Coming, He will come to physically establish His Kingdom
on Earth. That is when the saints will rule and reign and have
“dominion.” Not in this present world. In fact, Jesus identifies who
rules this present age and world we live in: ” Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” (John 12:31)
By his extensive quoting of scripture, Munroe very cleverly changes
the gospel message by relegating Jesus and elevating the “Kingdom” which
of course, allows us to have control, luxury, wealth and all the good
things to satisfy our lusts. At 5:30 in the video, Munroe goes into
complete blasphemy by saying that preaching about “calvary” or “the
blood of Jesus”, the baptism of the Holy Spirit or “the Resurrection”
was a strategy of Satan! This is an incredibly blasphemous statement.
Once again, the Bible says the exact opposite: For Christ sent
me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words,
lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the
preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us
which are saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 17 17-18)
This verse is explaining that the main purpose of a follower of
Christ is to preach the gospel. And the Gospel is about Jesus saving
humanity from our sins, not about taking dominion of the Earth today.
The Apsotle Paul affirms this by saying that when we try to add our
“wisdom of words” to the Gospel message, we make the cross Jesus died on
have “none effect.” This is exactly what Munroe is doing. He is trying
to preach a new revelation about the Kingdom, that he says most people
have not even known about. And his Gospel of the Kingdom has nothing to
do with the blood of Christ, which was shed as a payment to have the
sins of humanity forgiven. He calls that type of preaching a plan of the
devil. This again, is pure blasphemy and falsehood. (And we see more
blasphemy and disrespect when Munroe mocks Jesus for calling Himself
“the door”).
In the book of John, Jesus again explain what his exact purpose for coming to Earth was:
For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the
will of him that sent me.. And this is the will of him that sent me,
that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have
everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:38-40).
The entire mission of Jesus was to give His life and resurrect so He
could provide eternal life to those who believe and trust in Him. We
never see Jesus telling his followers to take over or command an Earthly
Kingdom. As we have demonstrated above, Jesus did not consider the
world he lived in His Kingdom. What was most important was that Jesus
save the souls of men, not their bodies. He did not come to ensure
everyone dominate the finances of the world.

In fact, Jesus identifies who rules this present age and world we live in: ” Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.” (John 12:31)
By his extensive quoting of scripture, Munroe very cleverly changes the gospel message by relegating Jesus and elevating the “Kingdom” which of course, allows us to have control, luxury, wealth and all the good things to satisfy our lusts. At 5:30 in the video, Munroe goes into complete blasphemy by saying that preaching about “calvary” or “the blood of Jesus”, the baptism of the Holy Spirit or “the Resurrection” was a strategy of Satan! This is an incredibly blasphemous statement. Once again, the Bible says the exact opposite: For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. (1 Corinthians 17 17-18)
This verse is explaining that the main purpose of a follower of Christ is to preach the gospel. And the Gospel is about Jesus saving humanity from our sins, not about taking dominion of the Earth today. The Apsotle Paul affirms this by saying that when we try to add our “wisdom of words” to the Gospel message, we make the cross Jesus died on have “none effect.” This is exactly what Munroe is doing. He is trying to preach a new revelation about the Kingdom, that he says most people have not even known about. And his Gospel of the Kingdom has nothing to do with the blood of Christ, which was shed as a payment to have the sins of humanity forgiven. He calls that type of preaching a plan of the devil. This again, is pure blasphemy and falsehood. (And we see more blasphemy and disrespect when Munroe mocks Jesus for calling Himself “the door”).
In the book of John, Jesus again explain what his exact purpose for coming to Earth was:
For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. (John 6:38-40).
The entire mission of Jesus was to give His life and resurrect so He could provide eternal life to those who believe and trust in Him. We never see Jesus telling his followers to take over or command an Earthly Kingdom. As we have demonstrated above, Jesus did not consider the world he lived in His Kingdom. What was most important was that Jesus save the souls of men, not their bodies. He did not come to ensure everyone dominate the finances of the world.

Myles’ first ever two-day visit to Uganda
is being enabled by Uganda Jubilee Network, a faith-based organizations’
association, together with the Parliamentary National Prayer Breakfast.
A globally renowned bestselling author,
lecturer, teacher, life coach, and leadership mentor, Dr Munroe has traversed
the world training leaders in business, government, education, sports, media
and religion.
“This man is a multi-gifted speaker,
who serves as a business consultant to governments, Fortune 500 companies,
addressing critical issues that affect every aspect of human, professional,
leadership and spiritual development,” said Dr James Magara, chairman of the
Jubilee network on Wednesday.
According to Magara, Monroe will start off his mission to the
country as a guest speaker at the Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast to be held at
Hotel Africana on October 8 [Independence Eve], where President Yoweri Museveni
is expected as the chief guest and Speaker Hon Rebecca Kadaga as the host.
He will then hold a convention for church
leaders on the same day, and later proceed for a Business leadership seminar at
Kampala Serena on October 9, whose tickets go for Sh150,000 at Watoto Central.
His wife Mrs Ruth Munroe is also expected
to address women on October 8 at All Saints Church at midday.
One of the organizers Mr William Ndawula
told reporters that the business seminar is targeting Uganda’s
working class, especially those in leadership position in business.
“We all know there is a severe challenge
about leadership in business in the country especially in terms if running
businesses with integrity, morality and focus towards business vision
realization, and there is no better person to address all this than Myles,” he
said.
Myles is also anticipated to give lectures
on business sustainability, being one of Uganda’s largest corporate
challenges, as well as working and living a Purposeful life.
Myles
Munroe teaches that God needs our permission to work on earth.
Myles Munroe Myles Munroe teaches that God needs
our permission to work on earth. He also teaches that angels need our
permission as well to do their jobs. For example, he teaches that God
sought Abraham for permission to destroy Sodom
and Gomorrah.
In their make believe interaction according to Myles Munroe, God told Abraham,
"You got
it! You're the man! Once you're satisfied and give me permission I
will act."This is absurd to think that an
Almighty and Sovereign God needs our permission to act in His universe!
Think about it my friend, is this not the height of arrogance? What does
the bible have to say about the sovereign plan of God and the vain efforts of
man that try to subvert it?"And all the inhabitants of the
earth are reputed as nothing:
and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the
earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?" Daniel 4:35, see also
Isaiah 43:3, Psalm 115:3, 135:6. Whom will you believe, God or Myles
Munroe? Benny Hinn
made the following endorsements after these incredibly blasphemous statements
by Myles Munroe: "Man! That is absolutely awesome! Dear God!...That's incredible! That's
incredible! Wow!...Wow!
Wow! Wow!...This is so amazing!...Are you getting blessed like I am,
dear Jesus." Myles Munroe: "That's why angel's need our permission to function. It
says they are here to do our bidding. They can't even act without our permission, you see. But, here's the bigger
statement: Even
God Himself is illegal on earth. Why? Because, He is a spirit and the law He set up
by His own mouth was that only spirits with bodies can function on earth
legally."(Myles Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 12,
2004) "Why can't God take care of Pharaoh by
Himself? Why can't God invade that government and disrupt that process
and set them free by Himself? He is illegal. So God then has to get the attention of a human
first. Then
spend hours, maybe even days trying to convince this one human to work with Him. Moses came up with every
single excuse he could find and gave them. And Almighty God tolerated him,
saying, 'Look, if you can't talk, I will speak for you. If you got
problems, I'll solve them for you. If you're afraid, I'll give you
courage. In
other words, whatever you need, please work with me! Cause I want to do something. Give me your body.'"(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 13, 2004) "So, even though God can do anything, He can only do what you
permit Him to do.
If you study the Word of God, you will see why it makes so much sense. For example, God has done nothing
on earth without a human co-operating with Him. He had to find a human. When God for example wanted
to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah...Go ahead and destroy it!
No! He [God] was illegal. He had to find a human to give Him access and ageement
to release His power. So, then God had to negotiate with a man in Abraham. They
argued for a long time!...Abraham figured it out. Abraham said, 'Ahh, Haa!
Okay, so I'll tell you what! Before I give you permission [Abraham gives
God permission!] to touch that city, if I could find 50 men, 40, 30, 10.'
He said, 'I'm dealing, and God had to deal with a man.' And he said, 'If
I could only find one.' God says, 'You got it! You're the man! Once you're
satisfied and give me permission I will act."(Myles Munroe, "This Is
Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 12, 2004) "When you study Moses or any human that has been
successful with God, you will find this dependency God has on humanity. God says, 'Moses, quickly agree
with me.
Because your brother, your nephew is on the way. We got to get this work done. I need a human to agree.' As soon as Moses agrees with God,
God says, 'Okay, let's Go.'"(Myles Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn,
July 13, 2004) "Let me define prayer for you in this show. Prayer is man giving God permission
or license to interfere in earth's affairs. In other words, prayer is earthly license for heavenly
interference."(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 12, 2004) "Heaven depends on earth for interference. If He [God] could just find
two people like you [Benny Hinn] and I to agree. We agree for God to do
this thing. Then
God says, 'Thank you very much for permission!' Then He [God] can
come."(Myles Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 13,
2004) "Our prayer is a strange experience. We
normally ask God to do things, God is telling us to command Him permission to do it for us."(Myles Munroe, "This Is
Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 13, 2004) "God could do nothing on earth, nothing has God ever done on
earth without a human giving Him access."(Myles Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny
Hinn, July 12, 2004) "He [God] could not name those animals because He [God] is
illegal."(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 13, 2004) "O' Lord, heal this man. God says, 'No! No! No! Talk
to the sickness, I am already healing the guy. What I need is permission
to get the healing on earth.'"(Myles Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn,
July 13, 2004) Myles Munroe: "Jesus was necessary for Christ."Benny Hinn: "Wait! Wait!
Wait! Wait! Pastor, slow down. What you mean is."Myles Munroe: "Jesus made Christ legal on the
earth. Jesus was the body."Benny Hinn: "Has he always been this deep
here? It's amazing what he's saying. So, So, repeat that."Myles Munroe: "Christ is God's Spirit, that's why
Christ needed a body to come to earth legally."(Myles Munroe, "This Is
Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 13, 2004) "Every sick person is already healed. That's why you don't really
have to lay hands on a million of people in India to heal them. You don't
have to, they are already healed. What God's problem is, is getting the healing to
earth."(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 13, 2004) "When a human gets healed and becomes well again, God Himself is
able to stay here legally longer."(Myles Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn,
July 13, 2004) "Every spirit is trying to find a body. Can I
give you another shocker? [Benny Hinn: You bet!] Even the Holy Spirit, because He
cannot function here without a body. That's why your called the body of Christ. And it
says our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Cause He Himself needs to be legal
to function."(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 13, 2004) "In other words, Moses had to initiate the action for God to
produce the product."(Myles Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn,
July 13, 2004) "God says, 'If my people,' now if means, 'I would like to fix this, but I
can't fix this without a human giving me permission.'"(Myles Munroe, "This Is
Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 13, 2004) "Interfering in earth by God is totally up to us...Heaven is waiting on earth to get
things done."(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 13, 2004) "What is faith? Faith is believing in what
you said, that God told you. In other words, the fight is to keep believing after you said
something."(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 12, 2004) "That's why your [Benny Hinn] healing ministry is
necessary. God
could heal people by Himself as a spirit with power. But it's illegal to do it on earth. So, He needs a human agency. What does laying your hands
on a human to do with healing? Well, really nothing. We touch you
you all the time but your sick. What He's looking for is permission! The power to heal is always
present, but having permission to heal is held up by humanity and their lack of
faith."(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 12, 2004) "God made a promise to Satan, I paraphrase again, I
believe God said it this way in my spirit. He said, 'Satan, you know I can't
come in right now because I'm a spirit. And if I came in now as a spirit I would violate my Word, break
my Word, and I
would never be able to be trusted again with my Word. But, I'll make a
promise, and the promise is: the same woman that you used to destroy my program
on earth for humanity. I'm going to use the same woman and I'm going to
put my seed in her womb and she'll build around me a physical dirt body. And I will become legal in the
earth. And then legal, I will then come in legally and crush your
authority legally."(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 12, 2004) "Satan himself knew that in order for him to fuction on this
earth that he needed a body also. That's why he had to go to the serpent which had a dirt body and
negotiated with the serpent to borrow his body for awhile. And he did, and that's why God cursed the
serpent cause the serpent literally loaned his body to the Adversary, who's a spirit, in order to do buisness legally
with Eve."(Myles
Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn, July 12, 2004) "It bothered me, I'm sure it bothered you [Benny
Hinn] for years as a pastor. If God is so mighty, powerful, awesome, omnipotent, omniscient,
why couldn't this mighty God who made 500 million planets and galaxies couldn't
stop a skinny little woman from picking the fruit and destroying His whole
program? I
mean, God aren't you powerful? You could intervene, you can destroy the
works of the devil, prevent the woman and save humanity. But He couldn't! Not that He
didn't, He couldn't!..."(Myles Munroe, "This Is Your Day," Benny Hinn,
July 12, 2004)
The Watchwoman: Myles Munroe's Dangerous Doctrine For Women
By NOELLE NICOLLS
#A
sermon delivered by Dr Myles Munroe, president and founder of the Bahamas Faith
Ministries International (BFMI), has been making its way around the social
sphere generating a lot of debate. I watched the video because it was shared by
a close friend, even though the online group “Meeting In The Ladies Room”
posted it with a message stating: “All Ladies Regardless Of Marital Status
Should Watch This!”
#After
watching the sermon the first, second, third and fourth time, with an open
mind, I still could not bring myself to understand, why and how so many women
were giving it rave reviews. One woman declared the message to be “profound and
powerful!!”. Another woman said: “Amazing word. I can’t wait to show this to my
sons.” And yet another called for the message to be played on a “bull horn”.
She said it was so “absolutely wonderful” the mighty word had to get out.
#I
was completely perplexed by these responses, because the same sermon that
brought these women to a spiritual orgasm made me want to go out gunning to
slay the wolf. I was not completely alone, although certainly in the minority,
for there were a handful of dissenting voices amongst the faithful flock who
thought the message was outright offensive.
#Dr
Munroe’s sermon speaks to the story of Adam and Eve, the first marriage in
history, according to the Christian creation story, and shares lessons on the
role of men and women in relationships.
#In
the words of Dr Munroe: “The third thing God told the man - Genesis 2:15 - is
cultivate. Cultivate means to bring out the best in everything around you, to
maximise the potential of everything around you, to make everything fruitful.
He only said that to the male. That is why God will never give a man a finished
woman.
#“The
male was created by God to create what he wants. The woman you are looking for,
brother, does not exist. She is in your head. Your job is to take the raw
material you married and cultivate her into the woman in your head. So if you
have been married for 20 years and you still don’t like the product you get,
that is your fault,” said Dr Munroe.
#When
are we going to move away from following doctrines that make women objects in a
man’s world. Not only is Dr Munroe explicit in referring to a wife as a product
of her husband, he says men are entitled by divine decree to create the women
they want.
#Such
is the conditioning that occurs in abusive relationships, where men tell their
women what clothes to wear, how to style their hair, the friends they can
maintain and the places they can go. These are the conditions that foster
relationships of power and control, the foundation of all abuse. And while the
message is gendered in Dr Munroe’s context, it has broader meaning in the
context of healthy relationships, because the same doctrine applied in reverse
creates the same conditions for abuse.
#Speaking
about Jesus’ relationship to his wife, Dr Munroe said: “Jesus Christ is a real
man, a real man. He has a wife, a beautiful woman. Her name was Ecclesia. He
said about his wife, he said husband love your wife like I love my wife. He
tells us how to do it. He says you wash her with the word, and then you remove
every spot, every wrinkle, every blemish and then present her to yourself. That
is mine, I did that. I produced that. Look at her. Look at her. That’s my
baby.”
#Our
leaders need to start using language to affirm the value of men and women and
their equal standing in the eyes of God; to affirm the individuality of every
man and woman. Our leaders need to consider the way in which their language
socialises impressionable young girls and boys, who are trying to negotiate
gender relationships in their youth. His message is dangerous not only because it
objectifies women, but also because it lays the foundation for the subjugation
of women.
#Patriarchal
religious doctrines have been used for centuries as reason to deprive women of
their individual freedoms, and we must never forget. Male interpretations of
religious texts have been used to justify some of the most persistent and
pervasive human rights abuses. And while organised religion has evolved since
its brutish origins, the church has not shed all of its misguided ways.
#It
is in the language used by church leaders like Dr Munroe that we see those
lingering remnants of the patriarchal order, in which robbed men “twisted and
distorted holy scriptures to perpetuate their ascendant positions within the
religious hierarchy”. It is this language that often provides the foundation
and justification for the abuse of women throughout the world.
#Human
rights activist Jimmy Carter, the former US president, recently spoke to
this very issue when he stated emphatically, along with elders from many
faiths: “The justification of discrimination against women and girls on grounds
of religion or tradition, as if it were prescribed by a higher authority, is
unacceptable.
#“At
their most repugnant, the belief that women must be subjugated to the wishes of
men excuses slavery, violence, forced prostitution, genital mutilation and
national laws that omit rape as a crime. But it also costs many millions of
girls and women control over their own bodies and lives, and continues to deny
them fair access to education, health, employment and influence within their
own communities.”
#In
Dr Munroe’s sermon, he speaks about God placing man in his presence. He was not
referring to man in the sense of the human race, but rather men, represented in
Adam. Eden, as
in the Garden of Eden, he said represents an environment, a place of divine
presence, an open door to God, where Adam was placed.
#Dr
Munroe further described the spiritual hierarchy that exists between man, woman
and God. Referencing scripture, he said God also gave the man his word. When
God commanded Adam not to “touch the tree (of knowledge)”, God never spoke to
Eve. The significance, Dr Munroe suggested, is that the male is the only one to
have been blessed by God with the word (a direct relationship to God). A wife,
though she too is created in the image and likeness of God, has to wait to be
taught by her husband, for only he stands in God’s presence and was blessed by
the word.
#In
response to a lonely dissenter on the video feed, one faithful follower wrote:
“If you find this appalling or offensive don’t read the Bible.” Part of me
believes there is wisdom in her response. Another part of me wants to believe
there is hope for women of the Christian faith who reject male interpretations
of holy scriptures that establish gender hierarchies and justify the
superiority of men.
#I
will certainly question any doctrine that creates a foundation and
justification for the abuse of women throughout the world, no matter how
divinely ordained the messenger claims to be.

Nicolls is the Tribune Features Editor. Her Watchwoman column explores genders
issues in politics and culture from a feminist perspective.
