Are ‘Animal Farm’ political antics playing out in Uganda?

It is a pity that the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2009 is being supported by a number of Christians. Laughable still, is the fact that some of these pro-Bahati bill proponents are prominent church ministers with post graduate degrees in theology and so no. We live at a time when Christians are some of greatest hypocrites the world has ever known. These Christians always stumble at the truth and pretend not to have seen it. Mind you I’m a born again Christian.

I remember a US Christian Senator who was a staunch fighter for the restoration of the Ten Commandments in American public schools. This guy was put to task by a Journalist to name the Ten Commandments one by one. The Senator lamented, ‘’all of them!’’ the journalist replied, ‘’yes all them’’. The journalist started counting using his fingers, one, two… the Senator kept silent. This guy did not know a single commandment. This was a terrible embarrassment for the ‘Christian’ senator. I’m sure some of you have watched a video of this incident on the net especially on atheist websites.

Such are the antics of today’s Christians, they draw near to God with their lips but their hearts are very far away from him(Mark 7:6). Most Christians do not know the history of Christianity, they can not defend themselves using the word of God and have never studied even one third of the bible. They always say, ‘’the bible says judge not’’ but keep munk when shown John 7:24 which advocates for righteous judgments. They are often threatened by their pastors with curses for failing to tithe, but can not put their pastors to task to explain why the first Christians in the book of acts never tithed. Do you know that many Christians today blindly put on inverted occult crosses? No wonder the world is rejecting Christianity because of this hypocrisy.

I do not support the Bahati bill because my lord Jesus Christ did not come to kill, but to save the losts ones from their sins(Luke 9:56). Secondly we live in the New Testament period of grace where the mosaic law of killing homosexuals is redundant, overboard and superfluous (null and void). There is absolutely no scripture in the New Testament that allows fighting sin using state municipal law. The first Christians in the book of Acts never fought sin using state municipal law(Acts 11:26). If we want to legislate basing on moral principles, then we should also criminalize masturbation, fornication and Adultery. Before we make a draconian law on homosexuality, let us begin with one that will sentence to death the thugs who have stolen billion of CHOGM, NAADS and GAVI.Corruption is one of the greatest enemies to the family. Even if the Bahati bill is passed, the homosexuals will bribe their way out. Even if this bill is passed it will be successfully challenged in court or will meet the fate of the Enguli Act. Christians should have nothing to do with this bill, it is simply being used by the current political status quo to reap cheap political capital and to pretend that they pro-God, pro-Uganda and pro-family. You and I know that this is a big, fat juicy lie.

At least 200 senior religious leaders in Uganda have thrown their weight behind the government backing it not to “yield to pressure” from donor countries that are demanding the withdrawal of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill before Parliament.

Under their umbrella organisation of the Inter-religious Council of Uganda (IRC), the clerics have recommended that the government should think of cutting diplomatic ties with countries that are bent on forcing homosexuality on Ugandans.

The Bill proposes that a person convicted of homosexual in Uganda is liable to life imprisonment.

At their three-day meeting in Entebbe this week, the spiritual leaders came up with several recommendations that are opposed to homosexuals.

“Government should cut ties with donor communities and other groups which support ungodly values such as homosexuality and abortion,” one of the resolutions reads.

Some donor countries including, Canada, UK and Sweden have been pressuring Uganda to discard the proposed law intended to severely punish homosexuals.

Not understood
The Secretary General of IRC, Mr Joshua Kitakule told Daily Monitor that development partners should not interfere in the process of legislation in Uganda.

“Those countries should respect our spiritual values. They shouldn’t interfere,” he said. “All senior religious leaders have been given copies of the Bill to read and educate people in the churches and mosques,” he added. Mr Kitakule said the Bill, which was tabled last month by Ndorwa West MP David Bahati, has not been understood by human rights activists and homosexuals.

“The Bill is ok. But it has been misunderstood. We need to educate people on this proposed law,” he said.

Bishops from the Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, Seventh Day Adventist churches as well as Muslim kadhis agreed to defend the Bill in their centres of worship.

Foreign influence
Speaking at the conference, Mr Bahati dismissed arguments that homosexuality is natural.
“It is a learned behaviour and can be unlearned. You can’t tell me that people are born gays. It is foreign influence that is on work,” he said.

The divine leaders also decried the increasing power tariffs and environmental degradation in the country.
“Government should reduce electricity tariffs in order to encourage use of clean energy and mobilise people to plant trees,” they resolved.
