But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. (2 Peter 2:1)
What are the strands that will be woven together to form the false church?
Tony Palmer states he receives financial support from Kenneth Copeland and claims he has been “consecrated” by Pope Francis to be a bridge for further unity among Protestants and Catholics. You may have seen the message from the Pope that Tony Palmer played at Kenneth Copeland’s convention. It is included in the above video.
According to Palmer, “…the protest of Luther is over. And therefore now we are all living in a post-Protestant era…” (8:00 in video)
The Protestants who disagree are suffering from “spiritual racism.” (8:40)
But…is unity with the Catholic Church even possible?
Palmer says, “It’s the glory that glues us together, not the doctrines. If you accept that Christ is living in me and the presence of God is in me and the presence of God is in you that’s all we need. Because God will sort out all the doctrines when we get upstairs.” (13:48)
Really? The Lord will sort out all the doctrines in heaven? Christ is very concerned with doctrine (teaching) and deception cannot take place without departure from His doctrine.
Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee. (1 Timothy 4:16)
Palmer, from the Anglican tradition, has served three popes. He uses a 1999 document between Catholics and Lutherans (?) as indication that the Catholic Church now lines up with Protestant (biblical) understanding of justification.
Yet, the Council of Trent’s ruling of hundreds of years ago has never been overturned by the Catholic Church. That historic ruling makes clear the division in belief. http://carm.org/council-trent-canons-justification
What about the Pope’s “infallibility”? http://www.reachingcatholics.org/eternal.html
And what about praying to Mary and the saints?
I am the Lord, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, Nor My praise to graven images. (Isaiah 42:8)
What about seeking forgiveness of sins through a priest?
For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus… (1 Timothy 5:6)
And what about the Eucharist? http://www.gotquestions.org/Holy-Eucharist.html
What about purgatory? Where in the Bible is there a temporary version of afterlife suffering? http://home.earthlink.net/~ronrhodes/Purgatory.html
Pope Francis is clearly a kind man, and a humble man. But that is not the issue. I am grateful for the stand Catholics take on abortion. I am very grateful for my Catholic education and my Catholic friends. But that is not the issue.
Catholicism is not biblical Christianity.
Mike Bickle of International House of Prayer tried to bring the Catholics into his One Thing conference several years ago. Fortunately, this did not happen. Link
There will be other efforts, as we can see by this Kenneth Copeland supported gentleman, Tony Palmer. Are we watching the beginnings of the charismatic movement (Copeland, Bickle etc.) aligning with Catholicism?
Pay particular attention to the last six minutes of this video.
And do not be deceived.
